Even if you aren’t as tough as Bad Elmer, you can still drink with him. This porter is a medium-bodied beer, brewed with lots of roasted malt, giving it flavors of coffee, liquorice, and chocolate. It’s rich, creamy, and characteristically dark yet extremely smooth. The initial light sweetness is followed by a clean, dry, roasty finish.

12oz bottle-pours a big foamy tan head and black color with effervescence. Aroma is dark malt-chocolate/cocoa, some dark fruit. Taste is dark malt-chocolate/cocoa/coffee, some dark fruit, some hops bite. Ok carbonation. Coffee aftertaste. Nice but not my style.

bottle - Pours very dark brown with a small head. The dark roast malt and chocolate aroma is pretty light. The roast flavor is also light, surprisingly so in my opinion. The body is on the thin side and while it’s not a bad quaff, there are far better porters available. I can’t agree with the World Beer Cup on this one.

12 oz bottle Pours out a black topped with a tan head. A very nice aroma of dark chocolate and roast. I liked the tast it was very easy to drink.

Bottle purchased at some random store in Bloomington. Pours ridiculously. Head is 99% of the beer. Light pour too... ridiculous. Aroma is burnt malts... not roasted, but burnt. Flavor is the same... once you get past the head. Completely unimpressed.

Thanks to atpayne for throwing this in as a trade bonus - first of all, it took me five minutes just to pour this beer into a glass - even slow pouring produced a huge amount of large-bubbled foam, so I had to pour a few ounces at a time and, literally, scoop the foam out of the glass with my hand so I could pour more - it initially looked like a pint glass filled with brown fish eggs - aroma of chocolate, roasted malt and play-doh - quite dry - medium-bodied - tastes like tobacco mixed into chocolate milk - kind of spicy finish - watery at the end, though - what’s elmer bad at? apparently, making beer.

Bottle. Cola and malt aroma. Dark black-brown color with ample head. Sweet coffee, smoke and malt flavor with a mild hops finish. On the weak side palate-wise. Would really love this beer if it had a bit stronger flavor.

Draft. No outstanding characteristics here. Aroma of roasted malts and a hint of smoke. Flavor, too, of roasted malts, slight hints of coffee and chocolate, with a smoky aftertaste. Thin to medium body.

Deep red-brown body, thin/medium light tan head. Chocolatey aroma with a touch of coffee; pretty sweet-smelling. The flavor was sort of a cross between a porter and a brown ale, with plenty of sweetened chocolate, brown sugar, and nuts. Not as roasty as most porters, focusing instead on the sweet component.

A very nice porter- and so far, clearly the best in the Upland line (Bloomington,IN brewers make good porters but not much else).
