Somersault Ale was designed to be a fun roll around on the tongue while requiring only the minimum of palate gymnastics. In other words, this perfect summer lounge around beer is ridiculously fun and easy to drink. Even though the second Somersault goes down as effortlessly the first, our brewer Grady actually has quite a few remarkable notes at play in the nose, flavor and mouthfeel. There is an opening brace of citrus aroma from Centennial hops, a soft apricot fruitiness tucked into the flavor, a fresh snap from a sliver of ginger root, finished with oats in a long cool mash. Color is blonde with a suggestion of cloudiness. Somersaults all around!

Found with an old set of notes. Aroma of citrus and pine hops. Taste is light bitter and very lightly sour. Taste is the same. Overall, pretty good for a light summer seasonal.

12 ounce bottle, best by 08/28/2011. I think this will be my first blonde ale. Pours hazy golden straw color with a nice 2-3 fingers of fairly dense white head with fantastic retention that reduces to a decent sized lacing cap that lasts. A nice amount of lacing clings around the glass as well. Aromas of big lemon, pepper, biscuit, grass, spiciness, and other light fruitiness. Some very nice aromas here with good strength as well. Taste of lemon, pepper, spices, bread, citrus, grass, and a bit of tart graininess. Fair amount of bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, bread, and spices that last for a bit on the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a moutfeel that is a bit on the watery side, but not in a bad way. Drinks really easily as I would have expected for a beer brewed for the summer months. No alcohol presence at all as expected. Overall, some seriously great stuff here. Nice amount of well balanced flavors and super smooth drinking.

12 oz bottle from GM Liquors. Nose is grassy hops and white bread. Clear yellow with a medium white head. Flavor is grassy, white pepperiness, and some light fruitiness. Finishes with a very light bitterness.

12oz bottle. Aroma was a mild, sweet malt one, with a floral body to it. Flavor was a touch citrus, but more like orange than anything else, with notes of flowers, sweet malts. Pleasant, drinkable, sessionable.

Bottle pours yellow with a thin white head. Aroma is grainy with crackers and hay. Flavor is grassy malts ending clean with dry earthen hops.

12 oz bottle into English pint. Pours golden with a medium white head that falls in a couple minutes. Smells of bread, faint citrus, grain. Taste is floral, citrusy, ginger, clove--very complex and tasty for an American blonde! It’s mostly sweet and a little tart. Definitely a summertime quaffer. Carbonation is medium, body is medium. Very good. If only all American blondes tasted this good.

Bottle from Malt & Vine. Pours brassy gold with a creamy/foamy white head. Smells a bit like muddled veg. Flavor is somewhat bready, but there’s some citrusy hop bitter. Not a lot of bitter though. There is some light stone fruit and something seems lightly spicy. Drinkable, but not incredible.

Pour is a clear blonde with a large white head. Aroma is some dull wheat malt with a little citrus. Flavor is a eye opening citrus with a little ginger and wheat. Its like they took a wheat beer and dumped a ton of lemon peel into the mash. OK for the summer months.

On tap. Pours with a clear pale yellow body with a large and fluffy white head that fades. Minimal lace. Aromas are very fruity, green table/eating grapes (Thompson/Sultana), wheat, perfume notes, candi sugar, and citrus honey notes. Esters. Sweet, light hints of green apple, curacao orange peel and ginger. A hint of what seems to be diacetyl. Flavors are dry, grainy, crackery, fruity and estery. Pretty sweet. A hint of bleach or other chlorophenols. Citrusy, light ginger and grapes in the finish. Fizzy mouthfeel and dry. Lasting flavor in the mouth is a yeasty, nearly lightly umami feel with what I swear is a yogurt flavor. Not my thing.
