Small white head, deep reddish brown body with carbonation. Very light aroma, but some roasty malts can be made out. Deep dry burnt malt taste with some acidity (deliberate? I suspect not) and traces of metal and paper. Some traces of resiny hops, too. Lots of carbonation in the mouth. Dry, dusty roasty aftertaste. Dustiness detracts. Not bad, but has clear flaws. Still drinkable, though. (0.5l draft.)

On tap at the brewpub. Copper-colored with a small off-white head. Fruity, hoppy aroma with some pine. Cascade hops? The flavor is fruity and dry with a piney hoppiness. Light sparkling, medium body and a finish that has some dryness. (060225)

I drank a pint of The Steamer on a quiet Saturday afternoon at the brewpub (18.02.2006). A very good place to be in the cold and snowy capital of Norway. Very clear appearance with a delightful mahogany colour. Served too cold. Light and short lived head. Quite high carbonation level. Taste of sharp caramel and notes of light bitterness at the end.

This beer is inspired by US West Coast steam ale. EBC 21,8, IBU 15,8. Copper coloured, crystal and chocolate malts are used. Several hop varieties are used, East Kent Goldings and Liberty are mentioned. Moderate fruity aroma, flavour is dusty malty with a dusty hops finish. Undefinable lack of balance, made worse by serving the beer far too cold. Too carbonated.

Amber color. Light malt aroma. Very poor taste, no malt nor aroma. What did they mean to do with this one?
