Alaskan White Ale is based on a Belgian-style witbier, literally translated to “white beer.” White beers, or “witbieren,” are named for the suspended wheat proteins creating a cloudy appearance in this unfiltered beer.

Bottle. Orange, clove/coriander, dank basement and wheat malt aroma. Slightly hazy pale yellow color with small head. Light sweet-tart lemon and wheat malt flavor. Light body. Not bad but not much to it.

12oz bottle. Slightly hazy orange-yellow. Thin, quick fading head. Pleasantly sweet orange aroma. Medium bodied, quite refreshing. Doesn’t really have much of the thick, wheaty vanilla tones that I like in a white, but it still holds up pretty well. Some herbal citrus bite, but nothing overboard. OK beer, clean but rather unexceptional too.

Bottled from Spokane, WA. Clear golden, minimal head. fruity spicy tangerine aroma. Mid sweet with well rounded mouthfeel. Nicely citric with intense herbal spicyness but low bitterness. A very refreshing witbier with quite intense spicyness.

A bit hazy orange color, small white head. Coriander spicey, bready aroma. Quite light palate. Wheatish, strong coriander spiceyness. Quite Belgian. Quite refreshing. Some similarities to Alaskan Summer Ale, which I had before this one.

Bottled (thanks Kalevi Kurronen!). Golden colour, small head. Aroma is coriander, some wheat as well as mild spices. Flavour is quite much the same. Rather pleasant and refreshing.

Alaskan wit Hazy pale straw color. White head that dissipates quickly. Some nice spice on the nose, a crisp scent on the front but some funk at the end. Taste is well-balanced and crisp from the nose is on the taste as well. Some nice, if not understated, orange.

12 oz bottle. Spicy nose full of those trademark American wit ingredients--most prominent being orange peel. Wheaty. Pours golden with a medium dissipating head and nice lacing. Should be paler ("whiter") for this style. Taste is moldy oranges, wheat. Creamy mouthfeel. Medium carbonation. Below average wit. I expect "true" craft breweries to be able to surpass the macrobreweries, but this beer isn’t even as good as Blue Moon. This is probably the worst beer I’ve ever had from this brewery.
