The biggest and baddest of all the porters in all the land, the Hugene is a humongous Imperial Porter that is brewed using the first runnings of wort from a huge mash yielding the darkest and highest concentration of fermentable sugars. Basically, it's dark as f***.

From notes. Draft at kedzie. Loads of coffee, chocolate and caramel. A bunch of dark fruit in there also. Warming. Very good.

Sample at the brewpub. Brownish-black color with a medium foamy tan head that diminishes steadily to a film. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and hops. Full-bodied with a roasty character and flavors of charred malt, coffee and dark chocolate. Touches of hops in the background. The finish is moderately bitter with a coffee aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

On tap @ the Rev production brewery grand opening. Pours a hazy dark brown with an earthy brown head that last throughout the beer. Aroma has some dry coffee up front with a creamy roasted malt backing. Flavor has roasted malts with some creamy chocolate and a hint of bitter coffee.

Draft at the source. Very dark maroon, thick brown head, solid lacing. Aroma of coffe with Hersheys syrup. Taste is similar, with a burnt edge. Very nice
