This is the ultimate Belgian style. The very high gravity of this beer is balanced by the smoothness of its finish. Banana and Clove aromas come from the Belgian yeast strain combining with the generous dose of Belgian Candi Sugar. The Saaz hops help to give this beer a balanced bitterness with no noticeable hop aroma. ABV 10.0%

Pours murky like beery milk. Aromas of strong bubblegum - bazooka. Good texture on throat here.I think some may shy away from this based on colour - finings for general population? In any case, it’s a good beer for me. Tap at Hopcat.

Hazy and somewhat dirty looking amber beer. Light yeasty nose. Fairly dry palate that is also a little crisp. Sweet aromatic malts - typically tripel. Subtle tones of orange and banana. More creamy malt and and minerally aniseed. Soft dry finish. Hangs together very well.

Sample at the brewpub. Slightly hazy yellow-gold pour with a medium thin off-white head that disappears quickly. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of yeast, banana and malt. Medium body with flavors of spicy yeast, bananas and sweet malt. The finish is sweetly spiced with a yeast aftertaste. Decent overall.

Draft at HopCat. The 223rd rating of this bad boy. Hazy pale yellow color, large bubble head. Aroma of lemon rind, straw, subtle acetone. Taste is malty but not overly sweet. True to the style.

Nice super hazy golden coloured body with a bright orange glow and a thin, fast-dying off-white head. Aroma of intense alcohol, coriander seed, yeast, wheat, apricots and sugars. Full-bodied; Deep carbonated taste at first with yeast, wheat and a good fruity flavour noticeable. Aftertaste shows a good complexity with alcohol, yeast, light spices and some dry hay also. Overall, a very nice trip showing a ton of good flavours, a lot of alcohol and some good sweet fruity notes. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 16-January-2011 for US$2.89 sampled at home in Washington on 15-October-2011 the day the Tigers were unfortunately eliminated from the MLB Playoffs in 2011.

12 oz bottle. Pours orange-tinged gold with a medium, quickly-dissolving white head. Faint aroma of cloves and green apple. Flavors of biscuit and lemon and hints of cloves and bubblegum. Some red apple and honey notes also come out. A decent beer, but nothing more.

Pours up hazy gold with white head. The aroma is assertive with candi sugar, yeast, apples, bananas and pepper. The taste is moderately viscous bringing in sweet notes of Belgian like candi sugar, mild coriander and yeasty spice, sweet apples and cantaloupe. It ends with faint dark fruity esters and some mild pepperiness. Nice tasting brew.

Tap at HDG - hazy copper beer - aroma of apple skins, candi sugar, peaches - tastes of vanilla, honey, wildflowers, light graininess - very sweet, and lacking the complexities I expect from the style - lavender comes through a bit as it warms - if it weren’t so sweet it would be great.

Bottle. Appearance is a dirty strawish gold color with lots of haze and a fairly large fluffy head that has died down after a couple of minutes waiting for Microsoft to get its act together and let me on to the site here. In the meantime I’ve been enjoying subtle aromas of banana cloves and yeast with an underlying sugary sweetness. First impression is that the flavor is OK. I’m not doing cartwheels, but I’m not making funny faces either. There is a bit of a tart quality that I didn’t see coming. Other than that, the alcohol is definitely present, but not too obnoxious. The sweet sugars and clove flavorings are all there. Sadly this just doesn’t finish out quite as nicely as I would have liked. I’ts not bad, but neither is it great.
