This undefinable black brew is part black IPA, part American Stout, but 100% Diesel powered. Robust chocolate and roasted flavors, with thick pine hop flavor and aroma.

On tap @ Mugs. Poured into an English pint. Black with a small white head. This was a very light stout with a hoppy aroma. Thin body, slight bitterness. I have no idea where all the alcohol was, couldn’t feel it at all. A very disappointing beer.6/3/6/3/11
Finally got to re-try this beer and it so much better than the first time I tried this. It full of coffee, roast and sweetness. Yet it also shows off some hoppiness, which is not getting in the way of the other flavors. I am guessing the first sample was a really bad keg.

On draught pretty much everywhere in Boston (though this particular sample was at Publick House on 12/20/05).
A deep blackish-brown pour, low filtration with a moderate amount of beige-tan head that recedes slowly to cover, leaving little bits of lace. Aroma conveys strong roasted malts, yet soaked in caramel they are with a hint of toffee and a full dose of green, floral hops, yet they are not dominant and allow the other notes to contend. Low on any chocolate-like notes from the nose, though not completely lacking, with a hint of light vinousness. The flavor begins with a mix of caramel-toffee sweetness, lightly dried by the coffeeish roast. Prunes and light concord grapes through the middle, with a touch of cola-like notes. Texture softens somewhat as it warms. It begins quite creamy, with a well-controlled carbonation. As the flavors unfold, it remains quite layered. Toffee, butterscotch, coffee, dark fruits and finally a finishing touch of bitter American hops.....but not too bitter! Alcohol very well concealed. Not taking this as an Imperial stout, but just a rich American stout, I think it comes off quite well-done. Nothing sticks out awkwardly.

[draught at blind tiger] I tried this before I knew what style of beer it was, and it struck me as being quite hoppy for a dark beer - when I found out it was a stout I was even more surprised - however, I am not one to often lower ratings just because something isn’t "true to style" - this beer was quite good - about as black as beer comes, with a two-finger, frothy white head - aroma of dry, piney hops, charcoal, cocoa, espresso - full but not overstated flavor of plum, chocolate, roasted coffee beans - nice, full mouthfeel - quite dry, very hoppy finish - there is an argument for this being an imperial stout, but given the high gravity of a lot of sixpoint ales, I would say if they made an imperial it would be much higher in alcohol - very nice - I can’t wait for them to start bottling their products.

More or less black in colour. Well, a little less but not enough to quibble. Roasty, plummy, deeply chocolatey aroma. Chewy dark malts - roasty, chocolatey. Well-defined flavours with only a hint of fruitiness. A lot of hoppy dryness in the finish. Quality.
