Zealand Pale Ale is this year’s Malt Stars beer, created by Jan Oppenheuser and Mathis Seliger as part of To Øl’s annual in-house beer “talent show”. Each year, people across the brewery get the chance to develop and pitch their own beer ideas, with one selected beer brewed and released as a limited edition.
For 2026, the brief was to highlight one particular ingredient or supplier. Jan and Mathis chose New Zealand hops from Freestyle, building Zealand Pale Ale around bright, aromatic hop character and a clear raw material focus.
Brewed in Zealand and shaped by New Zealand hops, this pale ale brings expressive notes of citrus, tropical fruit and fresh hop aroma from Riwaka, Rakau and Freestyle’s Tropical Fusion blend.
