6 oz draft pour at Snallygaster 2014 shared by someone. Orange brown with off-white head. Aromas of pumpkin and spices. Tastes of pumpkin, light spices, herbs. Medium-light body with a dry finish.

Finally got my hands on some more pumpkin beers! This is Uinta’s Punk’n. Bottle, 4%. A golden orange-amber color with a light beige head. Served in a snifter, straight from the fridge the aroma is cloves, cinnamon, some pumpkin flesh. The taste is sweet, zesty spiciness with cinnamon, clove, allspice & a hearty helping of pumpkin. Full bodied, this is what I was looking for, you get some real vegetal yam/pumpkin notes that are nicely complemented by pumpkin pie type spices. Well-balanced to me with it being a bit more pumpkin forward with the spices taking a backseat. Nice!

Beer #1 in our annual Halloween pumpkin beer tasting. 12 oz bottle. Nose is fairly typical for style, with lots of pie spices up front with the meaty aroma of actual pumpkin noticeable. Pours slightly hazy pumpkin orange with a medium off-white head with decent retention; leaves a little lace. Taste is sweet and savory, roasty; tastes like pumpkin pie, clove is strong. Body is medium to thin, mouthfeel creamy. This is tasting really good right now, but it’s my first pumpkin beer of the day. After tasting all the other ones we have lined up, I wonder if this one might not seem as impressive as it tastes right now. It’s a real straight-forward, yet well-crafted example of the style.

Bottle from Wine Warehouse, Charlottesville. Pours amber with a large frothy beige head. Smells of pumpkin pie! Crust and all. Tastes of very subtle pumpkin pie - some spice. Cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and crust.

Purchased at Evolution Liquors in Chicago, IL; enjoyed on a cool fall night before watching football. Appearance is a slightly dark gold with a very rich white head that slightly laces to the glass. Aroma is kind of faint, not really getting much pumpkin aroma, mostly malt. Taste is not a very good pumpkin ale, tastes kind of flat, not too flavorful, light pumpkin flavor with very light crispness. Not a good pumpkin ale.

Sampled on draft at 3R6P this beer poured an orange-caramel color with a medium sized foamy tan head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was semi sweet with very faint caramel and very faint vague spices. The flavor was semi sweet bread and faint dry spice and a hint of caramel. Short tangy, caramel and spice finish. Medium body. Eh.

Dark copper - soapy lace - aroma pulls off the rare balance of pumpkin character without being overly vegetal - a pleasant mix of spices as well (cinnamon, nutmeg) - soft carbonation - flavor is a bit thinner than I like in this style, but the cinnamon adds a bit a spiciness and the roasted pumpkin is earthy and tasty - maybe I just don’t prefer session able pumpkin ales as much - it is quite good, but I long for something heartier.
