We’ve discovered through delicious experimentation the delectably roasty character that comes from adding coffee beans to just about any beer style. For this traditional yet worldly stout, the mild bitterness of the roasted coffee is balanced out brilliantly by milk sugar, adding a touch of sweetness and creaminess. Cheers to the artful coalescence of two highly artisanal mediums.
Several unique things about this formulation make the beer special, including the addition of San Diego coffee roaster Ryan Bros.’ coffee beans in the mash. We also use British mild ale malt as the base malt and the addition of milk sugar, which brewer’s yeast does not ferment. These components add some body and a touch of sweetness to the resulting beer. At only 5% ABV, some might expect this beer to be thin, but that’s far from the truth; it is a smooth and satisfying beer.

Nice. Way more bitter than sweet, due to a hefty dose of coffee beans. Success story.

Draught @ Fox & Hounds, Sønderborg. Pours cloudy very dark brown with stable tan head. Clear aroma of roast and malt, with notes of coffee. Bitter and roasty flavour with notes of coffee, complementef by sweetish touches of lactose and hints of vanilla. Roasty aftertaste with malty notes. Well-balanced and enjoyable. A very decent Stout!

Deutliche Kaffeenoten im Geruch. Malziger, vergleichsweise aber weinig aromatischer Antrunk. Dabei leicht bitter, eher trocken, die Kaffeenoten bleiben moderat. Süffig. 10/10/10/10/11/10

(Bottle) Pours almost black with ruby highlights and tiny beige head. Nice aroma - coffee and roast notes. Great palate - medium body with excellent carbonation. Nice tasting beer too. Rich toasty dark malts with coffee and dark chocolate, with some nice balancing cheery / berry acidity. Very nice.

Quite possibly the most audience-friendly beer Stone’s ever released. Easy-drinkin’ as all hell, yet with a strong enough coffee backbone to shore up any potential low-ABV stout thinness. Cherry-raisin notes with a sweet dark roast frappe backbone, leading to a mild bitter finish. Good, but a little too accessible for the Stone we all know and love.
