We’ve discovered through delicious experimentation the delectably roasty character that comes from adding coffee beans to just about any beer style. For this traditional yet worldly stout, the mild bitterness of the roasted coffee is balanced out brilliantly by milk sugar, adding a touch of sweetness and creaminess. Cheers to the artful coalescence of two highly artisanal mediums.

Several unique things about this formulation make the beer special, including the addition of San Diego coffee roaster Ryan Bros.’ coffee beans in the mash. We also use British mild ale malt as the base malt and the addition of milk sugar, which brewer’s yeast does not ferment. These components add some body and a touch of sweetness to the resulting beer. At only 5% ABV, some might expect this beer to be thin, but that’s far from the truth; it is a smooth and satisfying beer.

From a 355ml bottle on 27/11/2016 (shared with Butz).Pours close to black with a small head. The nose features some mild coffeee and raosty notes. Teh flavour features sweet chocolate, with more mild coffee and roasted malt. Medcium bodied with average to lively carbonation. A decent enough sweet stout, but a very long way from Stone’s best brews.

Draft sample at Oktoberfest at The Shore Club in Tega Cay SC. This one had a decent amount of coffee with the earthiness of the coffee balancing the sweetness of the lactose. OK.
