Draft pour at Savor: An American Craft Beer & Food Experience 2018. Poured a dark, almost black oil color, with an off-white head. Aroma was light sharp, not quite pleasant notes, with a touch of sweet maple. Some mild earthy character, dark fruits, dark chocolate. Touch of woody barrel, some tobacco finish?

On tap at Mule Bar, Winooski, VT. Deep, chestnut brown. Velvety, thin, glossy, mocha head that sticks all the way down the glass. Nose has caramel truffle. Fudge. Maple syrup. Chocolate fudge cake. The full works. Bit of a cheesecake tang to it. Taste is tangy, fruity, dark chocolate bitter. Light dryness. Some sweetness, but no way as much as the aroma might suggest. Silky palate. Drinks way under the ABV. Finishes long, truffly, chocolatey, light bitter. The sweetness kicks in right at the end. Super stuff.

750 ml bottle. 2012 vintage. Shared with friends at Phatdog1’s house. Served only slightly chilled. Thick tan head when you swirl the stout around in the snifter. Dies to a thing ring after sitting. Chocolate malts sit on top of maple and molasses aroma. Taste is a smooth and roasty with the maple coming through more as sugar sweetness.. I would never pick out maple in this stout. Light smoke and ash notes. The body is a bit leaner then I was hoping for in a big imperial stout. The alcohol is total masked at this point. I’m wondering how much this changed over time because I never had it fresh. Anyhow, the stout in front of me is nice.

22 oz. bottle, sent from Glouglouburp (thanks a lot, Dany), pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, dark fruits and caramel - not really getting any of the maple. Flavour brings out heavy roasted malt upfront, some dry wood, and a hint of the maple sweetness. Heavily roasted with a dry body. Almost no hint of maple at all, surprisingly. Low drinkability but pleasant flavours . Good stuff.

Big thanks for dak for opening this series of Imperial Stouts at the Annual Black Friday tasting. It pours inky darkness with a minimal tan colored head of foam. The aroma offers up dark roasted malts, burnt toffee sweetness and dark roasted coffee notes. The taste is rich and kind of thin with dark roasted malts, some mild roasted malt astringency and heading into dark roasted coffee. Nice brew with firm strong notes but is seems to lack the richness that defines the higher rated brews of this particular style.
