Part of the Bond Street Series. This Fresh Hop Pale Ale is all about celebrating the hop harvest in the fall. Fresh picked hops have to be added to the brew immediately and in abundance. Roughly 270 pounds of Crystal hops from Doug Weathers’ farm outside Salem, Oregon will be added to the 50 barrel batch in addition to some dry kilned whole flower hops. That adds up to approximately 5.5 pounds of hops per barrel brewed.

Location: Draft at the Hay Merchant, 12/10/13

Aroma: The nose is clean hops, citrus, plenty of caramel malts, some grass and pine notes
Appearance: This one pours a clear amber color with a frothy off-white head and decent lace
Flavor: The taste is light-medium sweet, with caramel and fruit, and a medium hop bitterness
Palate: The body is medium, it has a clean, easy drinking feel, and a smooth, dryish finish
Overall Impression: I thought this one was a plenty solid fresh hop APA. It made for an enjoyable beer. It is easy drinking and tasty. What else can I say? Close enough ABV-wise for me to call it sessionable. Drink it and enjoy it.

Pours a cloudy copper-brown, with minimal head. Strong citrus-pine hop aroma. Flavor is a fresh blend of citrus notes that are nicely balanced. Some bitterness to the finish. Thought it was pretty delectable!

Draft at a sampling event. From notes. Citrus and pine domininate with a decent caramel malt backbone. Pretty good.

Nice clarity amber nose is great. Like tangerines and banana bread. Very sweet, tangy and mineral like throughout. Finish really is incredible. Fresh hops rock

From Dec 2006

Poured from 22oz bottle(room temp) a hazy light reddish gold with a large head of foam that shrinks slowly leaving a fine layer with plenty of lacing.

The smell is very hoppy. Nice dominating note of grapefruit that makes for a very nice nose.

The taste is grapefruit and floral up front with some notes of biscuit and some malty tones that linger in the background creating some balance. The finish returns to the hops and makes for a nice dry finish. Yum. This is a very drinkable APA and the fact that it's only 5.5%abv helps in that department.

I bought this on my last trip to Ft Collins Colorado and if it were available locally, I'd certainly stock up on this one. A *very* tasty example of the style that fans of hoppy APAs happy.

Bottom line: Another in the series of the Bond Street Series that does not fail to satisfy. I recommend it.

Update Nov. 27th, 2008.

Since my review, Hop Trip has become a brew available locally and I've been buying it on a regular basis. As I'm sipping on a bottle right now, the first thing that strikes me is how wonderful the fresh hop flavour is in this brew. I've adjusted my rating accordingly...

Tap at Deschutes Brewery & Public House, Portland - 07/11/12. Clear mid amber with a thin white head. Good lacing follows. Nose is caramel malts, light hops, barley. Tastes of bitter hops, caramel malts, touch of pine. Medium bodied with soft carbonation leading to a bitter finish.

Bottle - Malts, grass and light citrus hops on the nose. Clear orange with a thick head that doesn’t quit. Light and refreshing with some nice mid bitterness. A bit of citrus and resin, but not the explosive flavor I would expect from the description. A nice well balanced beer, but not a great one.

Bottle from Brewery Creek, Vancouver; 5.4% ABV
Hazy amber color, with medium sized head. Very nice aroma of malt and hops; the hops are creamy, a bit fruity, delicately resiny. Some toffee too. Solid malt and caramel backbone, with toffee character, and a bold hopping, very resiny and with accent of fresh yellow fruits. Long final.
Another great beer from Deschutes.

Bottle @ home. It seems like the last time I had this beer, it was in a bomber. I guess they moved it to 12 ounce bottles. Hazy, amber orange appearance with an off white head that has large bubbles. Potent resiny, grapefruity, piney hoppy, citrusy aroma. Very resiny. Soft mouth feel. Mildly bitter, very potent grapefruit citrusy, resiny hoppy flavor with a lot of citrusness. Pretty nice pale ale.
