It’s an Americanized (hoppy) Saison. It’s brewed with generous amounts of Amarillo, Crystal and Glacier hops (none added during the boil by the way- only first wort, whirlpool and dry-hop additions) and flaked rye. It’s fermented with a blend of Dupont and Chico yeasts. Very dry, ample yeast character, and hoppy.

Bottle. Pours a near clear gold with a white head that dissipated quickly to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma is full of fruity esters with some banana and bubble gum notes as well as a good amount of flora. Flavor starts with banana and other fruity esters with some bubble gum and flora notes coming out in the finish.

On draft @ Sunset Grill in Allston, MA. Served in a Tulip Glass. Nose is light hop, very grapefruit and floral, Crystal and Noble hops. A nice blend of several hops. Light to medium in body smooth and refreshing. Leaves a nice tingle on the tongue in the finish. Also, crisp and dry. A hop monster will like this one, I did and I’m not into real hoppy beers. A good job from this brewery.

so there are so many styles that every micro brewer gotta make? big foamy head on an otherwise clear pale lager but there is gunk on the bottom of the bottle that creates a mezmerizing pour on the second fill. strongish bitter with a sharp background a tad of barely petrceivable tart. very nice belgy ale attributes that renind me of orval, heheh. lots of gunk near the end didi i say that? ale attributes are sharp. somewat like an unfilterd tipperary ale, yum. finish us lingerig almost green citrus ending.

Cloudy, sprity orange-gold color with a high, fine head. Spicy, lemony aroma, slightly dusty, herbal. Inviting. Interesting citrusy American hops, lots of mineral flavors, and very big bitterness. Very tart, with lots of grapefruit too. Refreshing and crisp, though a bit too bitter and harsh. Good stuff, though; an interesting attempt to Americanize the saison which is quite successful imo. The hops give it something special.

Bottle from Half Time. Pours hazy orange gold with a small white head. Aromas of yeast/spice and pepper. Medium body with mild carbonation. Seems to have a lot of citrus, with yeast/spice and pepper. Finishes dryish with a definite bitterness/barnyard on the sides of the tongue. A really good ale.

American Beer Distro. Six-Pack ($15): It seems to me that everyone is drinking a different beer when they think they are drinking this one. Look at the reviews, the only thing that runs through them is hops and citrus, everything else is up in the air. In any case, I wanted to preface my review with that consideration. The pour is slightly hazy orange with a long-lasting white head. Aroma is of citrus fruit, bread, and Belgian yeast. I thought I would get hops just from the nose, but I didn’t really. Then after that we are confronted with the taste, which is sweet and very fruity, but the sweetness leaves some room for the slightly bitter hops. Really smooth mouthfeel . Minimal aftertaste. This beer is not like a Belgian IPA at all, it seems to me to be more on the Belgian than the American side of things.

Bottle thanks to blutt59. Pours with a large white head over a hazed golden body. Aroma of apple, mango, tropical fruits, bitter and peppery. Taste is bitter, peppery, earthy, stone fruit. Lively bubbles.

Location: Tap at Ginger Man, 3/23/10

Aroma: Nose is lemony, citrus, some light funk, spice, and some floral hops
Appearance: Pours a clear golden-amber color
Flavor: Taste is citrus, some yeast, spice, and a strongly bitter finish
Palate: Dry and somewhat slick with a long duration
Overall Impression: A nice example of the style. I like this one, another nice beer from Ithaca, a brewery that I am enjoying and need to try more beers from.
