Pours dark ruby brown/black with a light tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, hint of coffee and smoke. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter with a long chocolate and caramel finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

On tap at 21st Amendment. It’s a dark brown beer with a small light beige head. The aroma is roasted and lightly bonfire-like. Coffee and a touch of dark chocolate too. Roasted flavor with coffee, some bonfire and chocolate. Rather boring actually. Full body, dry and nicely carbonated. Bitter, roasted finish. A beer that didn’t exite me at all. 130805

(10/27/08) Draught sample at the brewpub in San Francisco. The board says 8.5% ABV. Dark brown to black-colored with a beige head. Aroma of smoked meat and some roastiness. Smoky flavor, quite sweet, with malt, some sausages, wood and hints of coffee. Quite full-bodied.

Draft. Dark blackish beer with a thin beige head. Low smoky aroma. Earthy, smoky flavor with some malt - not as bacon like as some, but there is a bacon-like component. Fuller bodied. Lingering smoke. Nice.
