Bottle. Pours hazy nearly black withairy but stable light tan head. Clear aroma of malt and caramel, with fruity notes and touches of roast. Sweetish flavour of malt, caramel and fruit, with notes of yeast and roast, and bitter, hoppy touches. Roasty aftertaste with nutty notes. Medium body and medium to hogh carbonation. Not bad for a Baltic Porter made far away from the Baltic Sea!

Keg at Stillwell. It pours jet black with a small light tan head. The nose is soft, sweet, oily, treacle, salted liquorice, roasted malt, maritime fayre and cocoa. The taste is bitter-sweet, rich roast, salted caramel, liquorice, toasty, treacle, dark chocolate and coffee with a dry, roasty finish. Medium+ body, fine carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Well rounded and easy drinking actually. Good baltic porter.

Bottle from the brewery store, enjoyed in my hotel room in the beer wasteland of Havre St Pierre Quebec. Solid black color with a huge bubbly tan head with great retention. Rich chocolate with light fruitiness and somewhat of a dubbel profile. Tasty, but not quite what I was expecting.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Dark color, almost black, small beige head. Clean, dryish, but with good body strength, mildly roasted malts, ordinary bitterness, some bottom fermentation esters.
Possibly brewed to fit the tradition, but classic Baltic Porter is not too exciting, and so this one.

4oz sample @ Churchkey, DC. dark brown, mocha head outstanding fruit aroma, lots of caramel malts, licorice-toffee? flavors, getting a load of dark fruits along with a mild presence of licorice, possible anise, whatever it is, the mouthfeel is unique and flavorful. finish is dry, hinting at some herbal elements with notes of coffee.
