A reddish copper ale with a thin lacing light mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with light vinous notes, treacle, grapeskin, resinous hops, light whisky, very nice and smooth. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity caramel malt with loads of grapeskin, aniseed, banana esters, rye notes, alcohol warmth, light woody notes, very nice. On tap at Syracuse Winter Brewfest 2017.

Rich, deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish, fast-dying tan head. Aroma of alcohol, whiskey, oak, vanilla, pine, grain and cognac - strong as hell here. Full-bodied; Very rich whiskey, grain and alcohol flavours here with a very nice warmth, along with oak, vanilla, rye, toasted nuts and a bit of figs - deep and strong throughout. Aftertaste is complex from the barrels with a lot of vanilla and dry oak flavours, but the big taste is the hops, which are still noticeable along with the alcohol warmth. Overall, a nicely balanced and rich beer with rye flavours, a lot of oak tastes and a good sweet finish - great to try! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 08-November-2014 for US$4,25 sampled at home in Washington on 25-April-2015. Batch #003 (of 975), Bottling Date 15-August-2013 Bottled: 15-August-2013 // Purchased: 08-November-2014 // Sampled: 25-April-2015

Sorry for not saying something on this sooner:
This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a slightly hazy bronzed orange to a reddish/brown color with a slim white film of a head that dissipates within seconds.
The smell started off with a nice sweet citrus aspect to it and then carried a fairly decent spicy rye note into the rest of the aroma.
The taste was fairly sweet citrusy leading into a semi-nice spicy rye note.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice rolling sweet to spicy connotation about it.
Overall, good DIPA with a nice rye note running about it. Definitely worthy of having again.

From a 22 oz bottle shared at home. Pours a clear dark copper with an off white head. Aroma of whiskey. Flavors of caramel, butterscotch and some bitter pine resin. Smooth and mellow. Bitter finish.

Very hazy dark amber beer, decent cream colour head. Palate is airy and semi dry, fine carbonation. Creamy bourbon soaked malt. Alcohol spice. Touch of bitter wood. Nice smooth vanilla oak. Mild hop spice and a little marmalade. Finishes semi dry with the bourbon turning a little bitter. Quite bourbon led but nice. As per other raters, this really seems a barleywine and not a DIPA.

Bottle: Poured a light clear amber color ale with a huge off-white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of dry bitter hops and rye whiskey notes actually works well together which is a first for me since I usually don’t dig barrel-aged IPA. Taste is a perfect mix between the dry caramel malt residual sugars with some dry bitter hops notes and the rye whiskey notes which are quite pronounced but do a good job of rounding the rough edges of this beer. Body is about average with good carbonation with light warming alcohol notes. This one drinks more like a barrel-aged barley wine with a touch of hops but very good nonetheless.

From the February 2014 3R6P tasting +++ Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark caramel color with a medium sized foamy orange-beige head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was sweet coconut, vanilla, toasty malts and marshmallow. The flavor was tangy and a somewhat bitter, boozy, coconut, vanilla, marshmallow, rum, wood and just a hint of chocolate and coffee. The finish was incredibly long with coconut, marshmallow, toasty malts and rum lingering. Moderately full bodied. Boozy but in a way that worked. Outstanding.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 8/15/2013. Pours lightly hazy deep ruby red color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, vanilla, toffee, coconut, whiskey, rye, oak, clove, toast, orange zest, grapefruit, floral, light pine, and oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with big malt and barrel presence and complexity with some light hops; and good strength. Taste of big caramel, vanilla, coconut, toffee, whiskey, oak, clove, rye, toast, grapefruit, orange zest, pine, floral, grass, and toasted earthiness. Light pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, vanilla, coconut, toffee, whiskey, oak, clove, rye, toast, grapefruit, pine, and toast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice balance and complexity of malt and barrel flavors with light-moderate hop presence; with a great malt/barrel balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very creamy, slick, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is fairly well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent barrel aged DIPA. Hop presence was weak, but the malt/barrel balance and complexity of flavors were very impressive; and quite smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
