On tap at The Beer Mongers, pours a dark orange-tinted mahogany with a medium beige head. Aroma is very complex, with notes of caramel, whiskey, rye, and citrus hops. Flavour is exquisitely complex, with loads of whiskey, rye, and the hops still shine through. Amazing depth to this, with a super creamy palate. Whiskey notes dominate but in a great way. This is probably the best barrel aged IPA I've had. Phenomenal stuff.

Poured from 12 fl oz bottle. Clear amber colour with minimal off white head. Predominant caramel malt aroma with hint of hops. Very nice rye taste over the caramel. Hoppy taste fills out the flavour. Medium body.

Bottle @ home. Cloudy, amber orange appearance with a cream tan head. Sweet oaky, rye, earthy hoppy, pale-caramel malty aroma. Oaky, whiskey, rye, vanilla, caramel, moderately earthy hoppy flavor. A touch low carbonation. Pretty tasty brew.

Bottled. An amber beer with an off-white head. The aroma has notes of hops, malt, alcohol, and whiskey. The flavor is sweet with notes of alcohol, malt, whiskey, and hops, leading to a dry finish. Too much alcohol for my liking.

Pours deep clear amber into a tulip. Off-white head with good retention recedes to skim surface. Spicy rye, sweet rye and hot resin aromas. Thick and boozy with sweet caramel and rye upfront turning hot and spicy before the lasting sweet rye finish.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Buy Rite - Jersey City, 2/17/11
Aroma: Immediately this one hits you with tons of whiskey right on the nose, there's a little bit of a pine hop presence and rye hiding in there, but it is completely overpowered by the booze
Appearance: Pours a mostly clear reddish-orange color with an off-white head and decent lace
Flavor: More balanced than the nose, whiskey flavors, hop bitterness, spice, caramel, and pine
Palate: This one drinks pretty smoothly, the carbonation is fairly soft, some heat is also present
Overall Impression: Look, I enjoy a good barrel aged beer, but if I wanted to drink a whiskey I would have bought a whiskey. This one just got completely overpowered by the booze to the point that it didn't really work for me. It isn't bad, but I just don't really like how the barrel aging accented (or overpowered) this one. I just don't like my IIPAs to taste like a bottle of whiskey. If it accents the beer, fine, but if it overpowers it, it just doesn't work for me. I don't know, I'm torn on this one.
