Tröegs Pale Ale is an American style Pale Ale that is aggressively hopped with Northwest Cascades and balanced with Belgian crystal malts to create a hoppy, copper-colored crisp ale. An excellent example of a classic American Pale Ale.

Pours gold into a shaker. Head quickly recedest to nothing. Resin and citrus aromas. Grapefruit and resin upfront with a dry pine finish.

(11/8/08) Bottle at friends’ house in Philadelphia (thanks David T). Almost clear, but slight hazy, amber color with a big bubbly white head. Floral hops in the nose as well as tropical fruit hints. A balanced flavor with some slightly biscuity sweet malt and nice assertive hop bitterness with some grapefruit notes. Medium-bodied. Tasty and very easy-drinking.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a bright copper color with a large yellow-white head. The aroma was moderately sweet and fruity hops. The flavor was crisp, bitter and had a nice blend of fruity and floral hops and a light peppery undertone. The finish was longish and somewhat dry with a lingering hop presence. Very nice for the style.

Bottle. Pours clear dark golden with a small head. Aroma of pine, brown sugar and grapefruit. Taste almost has a creaminess to it that I don’t expect from a pale ale. Hops could be more assertive.

The aroma is sufficiently hoppy, but a little yeasty.Thistle and grapefruit are present. Amber color, thin white head. Floral taste of rose and lillies, a bit on the bitter side, but still good. Round bodied. Weak grapefruit peel finish. Nothing exciting, but it’s pretty good.

This beer pours a nice golden to light amber color with a quality head that leaves sexy lacing. Smells of hops. Tastes of hops with a little citrusy edge to it. It is pretty close to an IPA and judging by the alcohol content of the beer, it is right on the line betweem the two styles.

Had this on tap at Fuel and Fuddle where it was called Pumphouse Pale Ale. I know this is listed under the APA style but I’ll have you know from beginning to end this stuff is IPA. Has an appearance that is just a little more colorful than the ubiquitous american lager. Beer is very hoppy flavored with lots of hop aroma. Am I chewing on green grapefruit rinds? Of course not but the long bitter lingering aftertaste of this stuff would lead you into believing that. Hops, Hops and more hops. Did I say this was hoppy? I would disagree that this is an excellent example of APA.
