From tap at Taphouse Grill. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is toasted malty and crisp hoppy. Toasted malty, crisp hoppy and light grapefruity hoppy. Ends bitter and dry into the finish.

On tap at the Alibi Room at Sloppy Seconds, pours dark amber with a beige head. Aroma of caramel malts and dry dark fruits. Flavour is heavy on the caramel malts, quite unbalanced, with a metallic finish. Kind of disappointing.

Bomber shared with Brenn79, poured into English pint. Thanks! Pours a hazy reddish-orange brown with a medium beige head with long retention that leaves some spotty lace. Smells of caramel, faint pine, baked apple pie, buttered toast. Taste is bittersweet with a slightly sour finish. It’s similar to something like Arrogant Bastard. Tastes like apples and cinnamon a bit with an alcoholic bite. Medium carbonation and an oily texture. I’m actually not too impressed with this one. Too malty. The best part of the whole beer was the buttered toast aroma. Too bad the flavor didn’t live up to it.

Bottle generously offered up by ditmier. Pours deep clear copper with thin tan head. The aroma has modest levels of pine hops mixing with malts and a bit of roasty malts. The taste has a nice load of pine hop flavor as well as some bitterness blending with modestly roasty malts and malt sweetness. I also get some citrus around the edges. Nice stuff.

Murky deep red-amber. Rich malts, caramel and maybe some toast. Chocolatey, sweet with some lychee and fresh fruit but lots of deep toastiness too. Finishes a bit tannic. All told, though, I’m not a believer in double red ale.

Bottle. Pours with a large tan head over a hazy amber brown body with some small particles. Aroma of dark fruits, hay, caramel, freshly baked bread, a fair bit of hoppy presence (pine, light citrus), toasted grain and honey. Taste is quite bitter but lacks the hop aroma and hop flavor I want to go with the bitterness. Some nutshells, toffee, very dry finish. Light fruitiness. Possibly faded, but this bottle is newish to the LA market, so I don’t know about that. Somewhat lively bubbles. Very attenuated.
