Dark brown with thick golden head. Aroma is schwarz like, soy sauce, bit of choc, lightly malty. Taste is similar, quite sweet, bit of creaminess, some dark choc, but mainly sweet. Slight caramel and that schwarzy soy sauce thing. Maybe named stout just because it is black as sometimes seems to happen here.

Bottle from omiyage shop at Gora. Dark brown pour with a small beige head that dissipates quickly. Light licorice and bread notes on the nose. Thin and watery with a bit of watered down coffee on the palate. Sweet with a touch of roast on the finish. More of a schwartz to me I suppose, and not a very good one. --- Beer merged from original tick of Sagami Stout on 19 Oct 2016 at 21:28 - Score: 5. Original review text: Thin and roasty.

12 oz bottle bought in Hakone. Very dark color, but not quite black and opaque. Beige head, uneven. Aroma’s: hard roasted malts, a bit moccha, ground coffee. Also some sweet malts retronasal. Flavor is roasted-acidic, some burnt malts, lightly sweet. Light bodied, a bit too thin. Not much going on in the finish. Like Minoh Stout, the aroma is the best part, but disappoints a bit after that.
