Opaque dark brown beer, good pale tan head. Palate is smooth and semi dry, decent carbonation. Smooth dark malts, decent dark chocolate and a touch of milk chocolate. Mostly about the dark malts here, which are nice, there is a trace of something fruity. The unami is largely lost on me.

Tap at Kaase Brouwers, Rotterdam. Pours black, OK, maybe more like very dark brown. Nose has some roast, lots of soy sauce, bit salty and meaty feel to it, umami as the description is saying. Taste has more of that meaty fleshy umami, still some booze and roast, chocolate bitterness. Drinks dangerously easy though, could finish half-pint quickly without any issues.

Bottled 18-07-17. Interesting. Very thick and rich. Salty, creamy, umami indeed. Miso and shiitake, even seaweed. Quite bitter. Complex!

Keg at the Beavertown Extravaganza, day two, 09/09/17. RIch mahogany brown with a well appointed tan covering. Nose is dark fruit rinds, Umami presence, black pepper, light roast. Taste comprises tangy dark fruit rinds, cocoa rub, toffee, charr, mellow roast, light herbal, molasses, spice. Medium + body, fine carbonation, warming alcohol in the close. Ok impy but lacking depth of flavour for a double digit ABV'er.

Pitch black pour with a velvety tan head. Notes of chocolate, coffee, soy sauce, mushrooms, raspberries (weird, I know), salted caramel, Chinese food. Quite light on the umami, which is a plus for me, since I usually dislike those beers. Typical De Molen imperial stout, with a bit more body than most.

Bottle @ home. Opaque dark brown to black color, medium sized dark brown colored head that lasts for quite a long time and leaves good lacing. Aroma is malts, dark malts, liquorice. Taste malts, liquorice, something weird, is that umami-flavor? Malt and liquorice a little mostly, average sweetness and decent bitterness as well. Decent body and carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel. Quite nice, well done!

Bottle. Black pour, creamy brown head. Aroma has caramelised malt, licorice, chocolate, umami mushroom and mocha. Taste of chocolate, umami mocha, caramelised malt, licorice, milky coffee and some savory mushroom. Salty finish, really soft smooth mouthfeel. Another great and creative ris from De Molen.

At a tasting, many thanks, very small creamy head, opaque black color, savory soya and umami aroma, flavor of shitake mushrooms, dark chocolate, soy and an ashy hint. Nice and enjoyable, different.
