With roasted and smoked malts, this robust beer is ideal for long evenings. Yet there are also aromatic hops in the beer and notes of wood. Delicious with the stew.

On tap at Kafe Belgie. Pours a clear deep amber with a reddish brown hue and a grayish brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges and laces. Aroma has earthy grains with a bit of smoked meat and smoked wood underlying. Flavor has earthy grains and smoke with a decent amount of smoked meat.

Bottle from ABC Beers, Den Haag. Poured a clear chesnut brown colour with a frothy off-white head and medium carbonation. The aroma is nutty, with yeast and a little smoke. The flavour is weak bitter, with a little sweetness on the palate and some nuts and smoke too. The palate is very smooth and the bitter sweet flavour lasts well into the finish.

(Draught at Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 23 Feb 2013) Reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, smoky nose with notes of dried fruit, bacon and smoked ham. Malty, smoky taste with bacon, smoked ham, dried fruit and caramel. More than medium body, with a certain sweetness and a slightly spicy bitterness. Lots of smoked malt, but quite nice.
