8 Ball - Big, Bold & Ballsy
One of our earliest recipes, we wanted to push this big IPA all the way. So we packed it full of Rye and dry hopped it for days with American hops, using old pool balls to weigh the hop sack down in the beer. Hence the name.

Can from Dranken Geers, Oostakker.
Gushing, pours hazy orange with a big, lasting, frothy, off-white head that leaves lacing. The aroma contains orange & mandarin, grapefruit, yeast, grass, resin & pine, bitter hops, grain & malt. It tastes light fruity/malty sweet and medium, almost heavy, hoppy bitter; yeasty, dry, resinous, bitter finish. Medium body, slick/creamy texture, fizzy carbonation. Very drinkable IPA.

On tap at Fakin Zagreb. Amber coloured, small off-white head, light caramel in the nose. Toasted malt, caramel, rye and notes of citrusy hops with bitterish sweet finish. Nothing special here.

On tap at Fakin Craft Bar, Zagreb. Shared with lovely Anja, Višnja 666 and Pilot Goran. Murky amber, small off-white head. Lightly to moderately hoppy, lightly fruity. Toasted malts. Light bitterness. Medium to full body, medium carbonation, moderate finish.

From tap at the Local Pub, Athens. Clear dark golden color with off white head. Malty and hoppy aroma, caramel, bread, grass, pine. Sweet and light taste bitter. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.

330ml can into shaker. Murky orange/brown beer with towering cap of dense white foam. Some carbonation visible through the brown gloom. Aromas of citrus, brown bread, and pepper. Patchy lacing. Taste is mildly bitter with some interesting sweet notes. Finish is subdued, long and dry. Really easy-drinking at 6.2%

Has a good malt and citrus mix with apricot hints on the nose. Good head and a modest foggy brown body. Flavour is reliable graham cracker with a citrus finish. Crisp and easy drinking. It's a decent IPA, no hint of rye or so it seems.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 21B - Rye). Can 33 cl - Batch L1563 (BB 09.12.17). AROMA: predominant medium-low caramelized malt aroma with a spicy note from rye. hops are very faint with a piny/resiny character. APPEARANCE: amber color and slightly hazy. medium-high ivory head with good retention. TASTE: similar to the aroma with medium-low caramelized malt flavor and low oxidized hops (piny/resiny and dried grass). medium bitterness with a dry, slightly bitter and a bit spicy from rye. PALATE: medium-low body with medium-high carbonation. slight texture form rye. OVERALL: altough this rye ipa is still inside its BB date, the hops are already gone. needs to be retasted.

Can at the Howl at the Moon, Hoxton, London. Pours dark amber with a frothy off-white head. Aroma of hop, malt, citrus, caramel, rye, tropical fruit and grass. Moderate sweetness, medium plus bitterness. Medium body, slight oily texture, average carbonation. Very enjoyable.

10-11-17 // can from Getränke Stumpf. Brownish beer. Aroma of sweet malts, mild cara, some bread, rye smoothness. Paired with a mild fruity hop aroma and mild bitterness.

Mal wieder eine schöne Dose von Beavertown. Optisch dunkles Bernstein im Glas, schöne Perlung, derbe Schaum. In der Nase sanft fruchtig, Zitrus, Pfirsich. Im Trunk schön cremig, prickelnd, fruchtig, hinten bitter, alkoholisch. Etwas krachig vielleicht im Abgang, aber trotzdem ein feines Ding.
