The secret of a good Radler is in the balance between bitter and sweet. That is precisely why we have completely brewed our Hertog Jan Bastaard. In addition to freshly sour lemons, we also opted for a special ingredient, namely pungent ginger. We have carefully combined the naturally brewed fruit lemonade with our Pilsener. You get a Bastard by mixing this beer and lemonade.

Bottle. Aroma of sugar, ginger and lemon. Taste has spicey ginger, lemon, sugar, orange and some toffee. Just a radler, the ginger is nice though.

Lime nose. Clear pale golden colour, tall frothy white head, good retention, heavy lacing. Aroma lemon, ginger, bubble gum. Flavour heavy sweet, lemon, light ginger, candy sugar. Sweet sticky aftertaste, lingering gingery and peppery mouthfeel. Light body, sticky texture, soft carbonation; not bad for a radler.

30 cl. bottle @ home, shared with Hilde, bought @ Coop Culemborg. Clear light golden with a white head. Sweet aroma with ginger and lemon. Medium bitter taste. Very nice radler with an added ginger twist.

Bottle at home, light straw yellow, small head. Aroma is apple juice, lemon, ginger. Taste is the same, sweet, quite enjoyable.

Bottle at home while cooking. Clear golden with short lasting bubble white head. Some ginger, pils malts, light bready, a light dusty touch, apple juice, bitter paper in the finish. Some light lemon though the lager and ginger overpower it. Medium sweet and under medium bitter. Under medium bodied with soft carbonation. It’s OK but the finish is a bit weird.

Bottle from local AH, BB 18/08/17, 30 cl sample. Almost clear golden color, medium frothy head. Aroma of fresh ginger, lemon and toilet refresher. Quite sweet in taste, ginger bite, lemon. Again, interesting take on a macro radler. Quite good given the style. Think I prefer the apple lemongrass variant for now.
