A hellaciously herbaceous collaboration of flavor. Collaborators: Sam Calagione, President & Founder, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery / Bill Covaleski, President & Co-founder, Victory Brewing Co. / Greg Koch, CEO & Co-founder, Stone Brewing

This saison has been infused with a herbaceous blend of Stone Farms and locally harvested sage, lemon thyme, rosemary and parsley and dry-hopped with Citra hops for a refreshing finish. First brewed in 2010, this citrusy farmhouse ale was named Saison du BUFF in tribute to the ad hoc coalition that Sam (Dogfish Head), Bill (Victory) and Greg (Stone) formed in 2003. Called Brewers United for Freedom of Flavor (BUFF), it was their way to show the beer industry that they were banding together to make room on the shelf for craft beer. Six years later this farm-to-kettle beer still boasts the use of freshly picked local herbs as well as Citra and Centennial hops to infuse crisp, savory, mouthwatering flavors.

Spiced (or rather ’herbed’) saison-style ale made in collaboration of three of America’s big and very influential names in the world of craft breweries, bottle at 77ships’s place, cheers. Thick, frothy, egg-white, stable head, hazy peach blonde robe with orangey tinge. Aroma of wet leather, unripe peach, green peppercorns, parsley, damp hay, stale urine but not in a bad way, soap, green tea, camomile, turnip - with thyme, rosemary and sage effectuating a ’dry green’ herbal note but hardly distinguishable from one another. Crisp fruity onset, peachy and pineapple-like sweetish notes, sourish touch as well, softish carbo, supple mouthfeel; bready maltiness sustains an earthy presence of the green herbs as well as something green tea-like in the finish, mildly bittering. Accomplished, no surprise seen its pedigree, and way more pleasant than expected based on the list of herbs - though I think adding four different ones is a bit unnecessary.

355ml Bottle - Light amber in colour. Peach, rosemary, thyme and lemon in the aroma. Herbal and fairly sweet taste with notes of Earl Grey tea, lemon and thyme standing out. Nice at first but becomes a bit sickly after a while.

Thank you tderoeck! Late night tasting @ home. 355 ml. bottle sampled. 18 FEB 2016 bottled. Hazy orange, creamy white head. Nose is massive chemical Belgian with green spices, thyme, rosemary, coriander seeds, green paprika, whatever,… Taste is soap, BE, vanilla sweetness with some sugar, candy & green kitchen spices, thyme, rosemary, basil, coriander seeds etc,… Heavy on top,… Body is sweet soap,… Not the best base but not bad either with huge amount of silly spices, not bad, funny beer.

Tap at Stone Berlin. Pours slightly hazy golden with white head. Grassy and herbal aroma and taste with quite a bit of hops to it. Some pepper, cloves, and lemon present too. Nicely balanced hops. Perfect with the caesar salad.
