Bottle 33 cl. Pours a clear, dark brown with a reddish hue and a very lively and frothy beige head that only slowly dissipates leaving a lacework as it does. Distinct smokey note at first sniff, and already on the second you get the chili. Medium body, carbonation a bit to the high side for my liking, but it can be hard to control in chili beers. Again: smoke, chili and then subtle roast. A little pleasant bite appears late, making the chili feels present but not overwhelming. Not my thing at all, but nicely made. 070120

(Keg at St Urhos Pub Stout- ja portteripäivät 2019) The beer poured clear and nearly black. Its head was small and nearly white. Aroma had smoke and smoked peppers. Palate was medium bodied with chilli burning and medium carbonation. Flavours were burnt malts, smoked peppers, peppers, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was burnt and bitter. A surprisingly nice burnt brew with chilli peppers.

Draught at Kantien in Ghent. Smoked chili porter with thick and dense, very regularly shaped, creamy, pale yellowish tanned head over a jet black beer with hazy chestnut hue in the end. Aroma of toffee, smoked wood, chocolate bars, dry leather, sage, candied cherries, hint of sweet plum tomatoes, caramel sauce, fig, salted caramel, gravy, pipe tobacco, 'blood'-like iron, toast, paprika. Sweet onset, almost hinting at fig compote but balanced by a blackberry juice-like sourishness underneath, very light gravy-like umami rim; sharp and minerally carbonation, clearly too much so for any kind of porter. Rounded caramelly, almost toffeeish malt sweet body, slick and full, with light chocolatey edges, developing a lovely, well-dosed smokiness in the end, almost like toasted bell peppers; a coffeeish roasted bitter note is there too and fits in well. Rum-like warming alcohol and a very mild chilli heat round off the finish, with a 'blood'-like iron effect lingering. Very pleasant and different, porter indeed in its sweetness and rotundity (and restraint in the roasted bitter department) - a smoked porter in the proud tradition of Alaskan almost, but way sweeter than that, and the chilli heat (however subtle) adding a nice touch. The only issue I had here, was the sharp overcarbonation, but since this calms down after a while, I won't take it into account too much for rating this one.
