Germany has been brewing IPAs and other Anglo-Saxon craft beer styles only very recently in beer history terms, and yet the first non- and low-alcoholic ones are already emerging, like this one from Bavaria. Bottle from the Albert Heijn supermarket in Hulst in the southern Netherlands. Very frothy, pillowy, snow white, thick but somewhat irregular, stable, thickly and intricately cobweb-lacing head; hazy apricot blonde robe with ochre-ish tinge. Aroma of lemon-scented dish soap, pear drops, sweet apricot jam from a jar, flour, industrial apple juice, baking soda, freshly ironed acrylic cloth, aspartame, dish water. Sweet onset, apple juice, vague strawberry candy almost, apricot jam, but with a sourish, nearly orange-like undertone, accentuated by sharply stinging carbonation (the beer has apparently been artificially saturated with carbon dioxide due to the lack of fermentation - as opposed to extracting the alcohol from a 'normal' beer); slick, soapy, almost somewhat 'slimy' mouthfeel, soft breadiness, with that sweetness further developing into a wort-like maltose sugariness. Ends bittering in a lightly spicy, leafy but persisting way, even if the sweetness remains equally strong; clear wheat soapiness lingers in the end. A lemon-like flavour, but without sourness, seems to hover over it all, too. Weird, soapy, more (maltose) sweet than bitter, but also less bad than feared - indeed the search for credible non-alcoholic alternatives to full-fledged 'craft' beers is still making progress; still, this is not anywhere near the level of perfection achieved by VandeStreek's Playground IPA, which could have easily fooled me as a 'standard' alcoholic one hadn't I known at the time. This Liberis 2+3 is more at the quality level of, say, De Halve Maan's Sportzot, even if the latter is not intended as an IPA, contrary to this one. Almost halfway there, let's say...

Bottle. Yellow amber, decent head, nose is a bit of Passionfruit/lychee/citrus. The flavor is a bit acidic which emphasizes the lemon notes and balances the non-alcoholic beer grain sweetness. Bitterness is moderately low. Really good for nonalc!

33 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 18.07.2019 Aroma has tropical fruits and cardboardy malt typical to low alco beers. Flavour has grapefruit, vichy, cardboard, malt and minerals. A different alcofree IPA. Decent.

Bottle. Blonde. Citrius, soft floral notes and a hint of glue in the aroma. A floral citric soft hopbitter flavor. Peach in the finish. Absolutely acceptable and one of the better alcoholfree beers.
