Bottle shared with sebletitje and Tilquin’s Peirre, cheers guys! It pours sort of murky amber with no real head to speak of. The aroma offers up vinegar notes that move toward a light soured citrus and a faint echo of sweetness and prunes well off in the background. The taste delivers tartness that is restrained by a smooth sweetened vinegar note and then picking up a mild spicy wood sensation. So this is a Quad that is light, yes . . .light, crisp and refreshing somehow. It doesn’t even seem possible but that’s what I’m getting. It even seems like maybe an 8% ABV beer as its bottle stated ABV really isn’t apparent. Cool experience.

37.5cl bottle courtesy of and split with Ibrew2or3, thanks Dave.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a deep brown color with a small white head. The aroma is big sour brett and bourbon. A big flavor with cherries, sweet malts, dusty, big bourbon, some warmth. Good. Actually, it ends up pretty mellow.

Tap at the barrel cellar - purplish ruby pour - nose is pretty standard for a bourbon barrel-aged beer - strong vanilla, moderate oak, spicy bourbon notes, a bit of sourness and tannic notes from the souring - low carbonation - a bit slick in the mouth - flavor is initially sweet, with notes of vanilla and innocuous dark fruitiness - sourness cuts through the middle, but lacks complexity - mostly just a moderate, manageable punch of acetic character - finish is moderate oak and somewhat funky grape skins - surprisingly one-dimensional, considering it is a quad that was soured and aged in a bourbon barrel - merely okay.

Tap @ Crooked Stave. Pours a murky brown appearance with not much head. Aromas of chocolate, caramel, tart dark fruit, plum, dark grape, light bourbon aroma. Really cool, tart dark berry, plum, chocolate, light toffee, tangy fruity flavor. Wow, I really enjoyed this, but granted, I only tasted about four ounces since I had to drive. Looking forward to trying the Cognac (and this one again). Update: bottle split with my brother at Exira Beer Summit III and it was every bit as good as I remember.
