Our good friends in Wuhan, China sent us a smoked chili from Guizhou province. To our astonishment, this chili has some neat smokey notes, and tohether we decided to brew a porter. We hope that you will enjoy this intermarry of exciting flavors.

Pours dark brown with a beige head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, caramel and hint of smoke. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a long chocolate, caramel, smoked, coffee and a very mild touch of chili in the finish. Body is light to medium, texture is thin to oily, carbonation is soft. I think this beer would have been a lot better had it been 2-3% stronger, because in this state it’s to thin and watery to appreciate in front of the fireplace or to baberque and to complex for drink’in in the sun.

Bottle, courtesy of the brewer. A dark brown beer with a finger-thick dark beige head. Lacing. The aroma is lightly smoked, with roasted malts, hints of coffee, a touch of chili and some chocolate. It’s medium bodied and creamy, nicely carbonated and semi-sweet, with a light chili warmth towards the end. Chocolate, coffee notes, hints of smoke and charcoal and a pleasant but a bit too subtle chili taste and burn. Long roasted and lightly smoked finish. Well... it ’s a nice one that’s for sure, but it sort of falls between two chairs. It’s a bit thin and low alcohol to be a beer for the chair by the fireplace, and also a bit heavy for a drinking session. Perhaps it needs some food. 170604
