Bottle courtesy of milsem. Pours hazy orange with a small white head that leaves some sparse trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is fruity and tiny funky with crackers, lemon juice, rose hips, white grapes, dry wood, hay, minerals, barnyard, orange zest and lemon zest. Taste is sour, fruity and tiny funky. Mouthfeel is bright, dry, tart, tiny mouth-puckering and light bodied. Finish is sour with plenty of wine barrel, rose hip soup, funk and citrus zest. The few Rare Barrel sours I’ve tried before have felt a bit heavy on the tartness but this is sublime. Balanced, bouyant and delicious!

Eric’s bottle gifted to and shared by Marcus. Pours orange tinged gold with a transient white head. Aroma is mildly tart, lightly sour, somewhat astringent fruit. Zest even. Med minus body. Flavor is pretty much orange - somewhat tart and sourish - pretty much like a lot of oranges that way. Good sour.

[2/14/15] Draught at The Rare Barrel in Berkeley. Nice shiny deep golden, just slightly hazy. Funky aroma, fruity and kinda spicy. Sour funky flavor with some vinegar, fruits and a spicy note. Medium-bodied. Nice.

Bottle thanks to Rainer. Pours a cloudy orange with small off white head. The aroma is citrus, floral, and orange peel. Thin mouthfeel with nice tannic, woodiness from the rosehip, dry, light fruit. Very nice.

On tap at the brewery. Aroma has a light oak note with a hint of graininess. Light rose hip and moderate orange peel. A hint of a butterscotch. Pours a hazy, golden orange with a small white head that recedes to the edge where it lingers for a bit. Light lacing and small legs. Flavor is fairly acidic with a light graininess. Medium light oak notes with quite a bit of citrus, especially orange. Faint rose hip notes. Medium light bitterness and a touch of butterscotch in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a pretty nice beer but I do not get much of the rose hip character. Good acidity and orange notes, but the base beer doesn’t seem very exceptional.
