This is a brew loosely based on the "Saison" style (which literally means “seasonal beer”) popular not only in Belgium but also with the craft brewers the world over. We too count among its fans because this style allows us quite a lot of “creative freedom” regarding the possible combinations of malt, hops and spices. The characteristic taste and somewhat dry finish are caused by the use of original Belgian yeast and specific fermentation technology.
The Glarus Saison ale is ideal for the warm weather – the fruit notes and the slightly peppery taste will refresh and invigorate you, while the dry finish will help reduce your thirst.
Ingredients: water, 4 types of malt, 2 types of hops, cardamom, coriander, orange peel, Belgian brewer’s yeast;
Color: dark-golden;
Aroma: delicate, with the hint of exotic spices and oranges;
Mouthfeel: corresponding to the aroma, mild alcohol, dry finish;
Body: medium-high;
Recommended serving temperature: 7-8 degrees Celsius;
Food pairing: grill, cheeses, summer dishes

Bottle at the flat in Gabrovo - sourced from a local Billa. Pours mostly clear deep gold with a modest, frothy off-white head. The aroma has some herbal hops, doughy wheat bread, light yeast. Medium sweet flavour with more doughy wheat bread, some green herbs, straw, lemon peel, yeast, biscuits. Light to medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Decent balance in the finish, some white sugar, more simple doughy wheat bread, soft saison yeast notes, a little ripe lemon, meringue, straw, more herbal hops, low bitterness, pie crust. Perhaps a bit basic, but still pretty enjoyable overall.

Summer 2017 at Halbite pub in Sofia, shared with lovely Anja and Our K&K Igor. I love you both! Clear light golden, minimal white head. Spices and herbs, basil, ginger, very aromatic, even perfumed, pepper, something like peat. Spicy, very light tart, dry. Light to medium body, moderate carbonation, moderate lasting perfumed finish. Not a big fan.

Smell of spice, herbs, hops. Golden colour, very high white head. Aroma of vegatables, spices, herbs. Some grassy notes. They overrun all other flavours. Sort of bitter. Lively carbon. This is far from a saison. Didn't even finish it.

BOTTLE 50 CL. Almost clear deep golden, creamy head. The aroma has notes of sweets/lollipops, candied orange peels and cooking herbs like rosemary or such; slight acidity. Similar flavour with light sweetness and moderate herbal bitter finish. Does not have the crisp dryness specific to this style. Not bad and better than other Glarus beers.
