This live barrel of NW style sour red ale was initially aged for six months in French oak wine barrels, then additionally aged on elderberries. Sharp wine, dark raisins, red grapes and cereal notes greet you on the nose. Tart dark fruit and grapes on the palate lead to a sparkling crisp dry finish with hints of fresh elderberries and grape skins.

750 ml bottle. Thanks to Tim G. Color is a murkey deep brown. Aroma is a variety of berries, blackberry, elderberry, mixed berry jam.

The flavor got very intensely sour as it warmed. Acidic notes that give a sharp pucker in the taste buds. It does show a good amount of berries with a jam-like character. It also has some tannic oak hints.

I never turn down a brew that is offered to me but this is not the kind of brew I would openly buy or order. My review reflects my enjoyment level of this. For me just way to sour.

Personal note: Rating number 100 for the state of Oregon

Sample at Hoof Hearted during the Dragonsaddle Triple IPA Can Release on 11/15/2015. Dark brown pour with some ruby around the edges, and a medium thin pinkish white head that evaporates quickly to a wispy film. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of berries, oak and yeast. Medium body with flavors of tart berries, yeast, oak and biscuit malt. The finish is moderately tart with a berry and fig aftertaste. Pretty good all around.
