This live barrel of NW style sour red ale was initially aged for six months in French oak wine barrels, then additionally aged on elderberries. Sharp wine, dark raisins, red grapes and cereal notes greet you on the nose. Tart dark fruit and grapes on the palate lead to a sparkling crisp dry finish with hints of fresh elderberries and grape skins.

[2/24/15] Draught at Cascade Brewing Barrel House in Portland. Dark red brown color. Aroma of berries, a bit candy-ish, a bit spicy. Sourish and slightly sweet flavor with berries, a candy-ish note, lacto and a spicy hint. Medium-bodied.

Draft at the barrel house. 2013 edition. Pours a brownish red color with no head. Sweet blueberry and strawberry aroma. Super sour flavor, with a complimenting sweet blueberry flavor. Finishes s we etc and sour, and the bl7eberry, or I guess maybe elderberry, lingers forever. Great sour.

From the December 2014 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a black color with orange highlights and a large foamy brown head that lingered and left minimal lacing. The aroma was tart and sour with vague berries and must. The flavor wa start and sour with vague berries, vinegar and must. Long finish. Medium body. Solid.

Bottle at home. Pours a deep velvety purple with one finger head. Nose is tart elderberry, spicy wood, and floral. Tastes of sharp vinegar, flowers, elderberry, grapes, plums, wood, and wine residue. Tart palate and juicy finish. Very enjoyable no prob putting down this 750.

Bottle @ What the Funk, October 2014, Denver. Pours a fairly clear, dark orangish brown appearance with a fizzy off white head. Kind of acetic. Some leather, wood, and tannins to go with blackberry pie. Also, some caramel and toasted malt. Pretty good.

Bottle shared at Jack the Sipper tasting, big thanks to Bucey D for the OR hook up, 12/05/14. Dark mahogany brown with moderate light beige spotting. Nose is tangy soured berry fruit, floral rinse, peach, light toffee, candied orange peel. Taste comprises bitter orange marmalade, perfumed notes, dank tropical fruits, floral tones, elderberry twang, sharp gooseberries. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Solid sour work.
