This live barrel of NW style sour red ale was initially aged for six months in French oak wine barrels, then additionally aged on elderberries. Sharp wine, dark raisins, red grapes and cereal notes greet you on the nose. Tart dark fruit and grapes on the palate lead to a sparkling crisp dry finish with hints of fresh elderberries and grape skins.

Bottle thanks to Bruce. It pours darkest brown with a small fizzy tan head. The nose is fresh, candy, sherbet, elderberry, blackcurrant, jam and more candy cane. The taste is crisp, tart, jammy, earthy, citrus peel, lemon peel, elderberry, wood and lemon sherbet with a dry, tart finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Crisp, tart, fruity and tasty.

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Bruce. Pours clear, blue-brown with a froth, beige head. Leathery dark berries on the nose, some decent funk, toasted wood. Medium sweet flavor with assertive tart berries, cleansing acidity, light herbs, pepper. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Finishes with strong acidic burn, some further ripe berries, a bit of tangy wood, a bit of alcohol warmth. A punchy Cascade sour; or, in other words, a Cascade sour.

Bottle shared by Corbit, thanks! Pours a hazy dark amber with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of nice sour dark berries with a touch of funk. Flavor is full of sour dark berries with a good amount of acid and a hint of funk.

Thanks Sean for sending me this bottle after his trip to Portland. Enjoyed on a special day at 60F in some stemware
A - Looks like Raisin juice. Very dark, oak red hues. 7-Up like soda fizz appears and fades.
S - Smell is great. Dark fruit, earthy and woody. Totally get the biscuit and cornbread as well. But the grape jelly like concord grapes just shines through.
T - Pretty Floral up front. Sweet finish. This isn’t a sour beer really but it does make my mouth water. It is sour but not in any vinegar way. it’s very clean. Blueberries and grape jelly and cheap grocery store wine.
M - Thin and not doing much. The soda pop fizz leads to a disappointing mouthfeel.
O - Still, an impressive beer. the wine barrel + elderberry lends something nice. One I’d have again.

Bottle shared with Brian - thanks to Sean for this one! pours cloudy brown with a medium tan creamy head that dissipates with nice lacing. Aroma is tart fruity, lemon, oak, funk. Flavor is medium tart with some initial sweetness that fades to dry in the finish. Fruity, with distinct notes of elderberry, which I know cause I used to pick them as a kid in Wisconsin. Medium body, champagnelike mouthfeel. A very nice sour. I enjoyed this one.

On tap at the Barrel House. Pours a reddish brown color with a small white head. A big robust sour/woody/lactic nose with equally big berries. The flavor is similar, the sourness and sawdust is always good from Cascade, but the key here is the big true berry flavors. Tastes purple! Very well made. Drinkable despite high sourness.

750ml bottle. Poured a slight purple color with a white head. Aroma was slightly tart sweetness, with a dominant elderberries presence in it. A touch of oak I suppose, with a nice tartness to it. Nice sweetness, with a nice tart character.
