This live barrel of NW style sour red ale was initially aged for six months in French oak wine barrels, then additionally aged on elderberries. Sharp wine, dark raisins, red grapes and cereal notes greet you on the nose. Tart dark fruit and grapes on the palate lead to a sparkling crisp dry finish with hints of fresh elderberries and grape skins.

On tap at Sourfest. Pours with a hazy/murky deep brown hued body with a small, off-white head. Aromas are mildly tart, concord grapes, elderberry, medium malt, light oak. Flavors are tart and clean, dry and acidic with only a mild fruit and some tannin. Medium carbonation and dry. A little bit lifeless compared to some of the other Cascade sours.

A hazed brown ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, a smooth lactic malt with light raspberry notes, Brett, nice. In mouth, a nice lactic malt with light sour cherries, raspy mouthfeel, nice and smooth. On tap at Portland brewery, Oct. 7 2012.

Draught at the Barrel House. Deep crimson with brown, lace. Nose of cherry, yogurt, acid, light vinegar, berry. Nicely sour flavor, vinegar, cherry, canβt really find the elderberry (what do they taste like anyway?). Good, though not as great as many of the others.

Tap at the Barrel House. Pours ruddy and plummy with an off-white head. Elderberry aroma. Full bodied. Flavor is darkly sour with red/elderberry flavor. The flavor is a bit mixed with fruit and something wood or similar. Quite nice.

On tap at Cascade Brewing, pours a dark amber / mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma of berries and sour fruits - not much else. Flavour of sour / tart berries, slight sweetness to balance. Nothing that standout-ish here, but it's well-made. Lingering tartness. Decent.
