The 2014 Double DBA imperial special bitter is Firestone Walker’s flagship DBA brewed at double strength, using twice the amount of malts and hops. As with the regular DBA, the 2014 Double DBA was partially fermented in a union of new American oak barrels. After fermentation, the beer was racked and returned to the union barrels as well as bourbon barrels, where it aged for one year. The barrel mix for the 2014 Double DBA included vessels from Woodford Reserve, Elijah Craig and Four Roses.

A clear dark amber Barley Wine with a thin mocha head. In aroma, a nice dark caramel malt with vinous notes, dark fruits, alcohol warmth, very nice. In mouth, a superb sweet malt with pinot de charente character, floral hops, oily mouth, licorice, alcohol warmth, well done. Bottle at Downtown Brew fest LV 2013.

On tap at Firestone Walker Barrelworks. A clear amber colored beer with a small, off-white head. The aroma has lots of dark dried fruits, some faint spiced notes, alcohol notes and peach hints. Full bodied, soft and a bit too warming on the palate. Lasting flavor with alcohol, loads of wonderful dark dried fruits, a hint of vanilla and a little sweetness. Some bitterness too it seems. Yet another wonderful one. 130809

Beautiful dark amber color, with red shades, and small head. Nice plain aroma of oak barrel. Good body strength, although the mouthfeel is not heavy; good caramel flavor, semi-sweet, with some toffee, light pleasant nuttiness, correct bitterness, some vanilla/wood presence.
A good one as usual; appealing also to my non-beer-drinking friends.

Draft. An amber beer with a lazing yellowish head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, and alcohol. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, alcohol, and wood. The alcohol burns the tongue.
