The 2014 Double DBA imperial special bitter is Firestone Walker’s flagship DBA brewed at double strength, using twice the amount of malts and hops. As with the regular DBA, the 2014 Double DBA was partially fermented in a union of new American oak barrels. After fermentation, the beer was racked and returned to the union barrels as well as bourbon barrels, where it aged for one year. The barrel mix for the 2014 Double DBA included vessels from Woodford Reserve, Elijah Craig and Four Roses.

Bottle shared by Cuso. Thanks for this masterpiece! Aroma is strongly malty. Dominating biscuit, caramel, coconut, complemented with fruits, overripe grapes. Hazy reddish amber colour. Taste is wonderful. Rum combines with coconut in a malibu way, biscuits, light warming alcohol. Wow experience.

Deep amber pour with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily Stringy lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of caramel malt, toffee and subtle bourbon. Full, smooth body with flavors of oaky vanilla, sweet malt, grassy hops and a bit of dark fruit. The finish is rich and malty with an oak aftertaste. Good beer all around.

Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, riped fruit, wood, vanilla, alcohol. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet with a long duration, vanilla, wood, alcohol, dried fruit. 22 oz bomber shared by someone at a tasting. The pour is hazed brown copper orange with a smallish tan head. The aroma is the rich, sweet caramel malt, along with earth and vanilla oak barrel. Bit of alcohol peaks through as well. The taste is deep, thick sweet caramel malt along with the vanilla, fruit sweet and woody oak barrel character. Dried fruit and alcohol shows in the long finish. The palate is medium bodied, soft carbonation, and the booze and wood finish. Nice enough.
