The oxymoron of the style name could not fit beer to Rudeen’s taste. His deep mahogany black colour is not only for the looks but also hides a generous amount of chocolaty caramel roastiness. Hops gives it a huge fruity and resiny aroma and taste. It is creamy, refreshing and bitter at the same time. We advise you to close your eyes, smell and then taste this bold beer which marries stout, porter and a big IPA. A perfect balance between hops, mellow roastiness from the malt, creaminess and drinkability is something that we are especially proud of. Be careful! He bites!

Keg at The Hop Locker, Southbank, London. A dark brown coloured pour with a medium creamy beige white head on top. Roasty, malty, hoppy, pine aroma. Tastes similar, roasty, malty, hoppy, citrus, pine with a bitter finale. Very nice indeed.

Pours dark brown from the bottle and leaves a frothy, head that lingers and turns creamy. Lots of evident lacing. Aroma is tropical fruit with chocolate truffle undertones. Taste is up front bittersweet with chocolate, hazelnut and fruity notes, trending distinctly more bitter going into the finish. Amazingly well balanced. Body is medium to full and a bit oily over a mild carbonation. A true pleasure to drink. Updated 08/2018: still loving this one. Full of chocolate and toffee, yet fruity at the same time, with a well balanced kick of hop bitterness at the end. One of my favorites for the style.

Bottle. Very dark brown polished chestnut, golden brown head. Fresh grassy, sweaty and citric hop aroma on a caramel/bisquit and roast malt base. Medium light body, dry chocolate/coffee roast and licorice notes, lightly burned. Coffee retronasal. Tends towards a Imperial baltic porter.

Sample at Borefts 2016. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy light tan head. The aroma is yeast, floral, light hop. The flavour is moderate liqourice bitter with a smoky ashtray roasty light hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

0,33 l bottle. Pours reddish brown with a finger of tan frothy head. Aroma is strong coffee, roasty malts, grapefruit and forest berries. Flavor is chocolate, coffee, a bit nutty. Forest berries are present, some dried plums too. Body is light sweet that goes into long dry resinous bitterness. Not overwhelming though. Body is medium with slick mouth feel and average carbonation. Nicely rounded black IPA.
