On tap@ Medina Škrinja, Varaždin. Brewery promotion. Hazy red/brown pour with one finger creamy beige head. Long lasting, very good retention, nice lacing on the glass. Not so fresh on the nose, a bit stale... First batch issues? Slight tart. Some roasty notes. Thin to medium body, medium carbonation. Light mouthfeel and palate. Taste and aroma... hmm. Well, bitter with some tart notes. Not really well balanced, feels rough around the edges. Aroma of roasted malts, hops. Some undefined stale grassiness going on. Caramel. Hop bitterness somewhat off-placed, dominating the not so pleasant finish. Drying mouthfeel. Overall, a bit disappointed with this one. Average effort. Undefined, like they didn't have a clear idea of what they want with this one. Not terrible, though. I'll definitely have a go at later batches and perhaps change my rating. RATING: 2.9/5 UPDATE: Bottle, 0.5l. Bottled sample was better. Better balance and aroma came forward more cleanly. Nice roastiness with pleasant hoppy finish. Unlike the promotion sample, bitterness here is far better tamed and, well, balanced. Adjusting my rating accordingly.
