Our recipe was inspired by the traditional refectory ales known as patersbier (“fathers’ beer” in Flemish) in Belgium. These sessionable beers are brewed by the monks for their dinner table and are typically only available at the monastery. Spencer is a full-bodied, golden-hued ale with fruity accents, a dry finish and light hop bitterness. The beer is unfiltered and unpasteurized, preserving live yeast that naturally carbonates the beer in the bottle and keg and contributes to the beer flavor and aroma.

330ml bottle from RusBeerShop in Moscow. Pours cloudy gold with a small white head. Aroma is banana, honey, spices. Taste is sweet, yeast, fruity. Very authentic.

Bottle with expiry date 01.2019. Golden colour, hazy, minimal head. Aroma is very fruity, with apricot, banana, a bit of herbs. Alcohol not noticeable. Medium sweet, just slight bitterness. Medium carbonation. Maybe not very complex, but it's very good, better than many similar Belgian beers.

Bottle @ Pre-Pils-Festival, Odense. Pours Hazy Golden with a White head. Phenolic nose. Yeasty. Banana and a sourish touch. Wet socks. Quite poor.

Bottle from Abeervinum, Rimini, Italy. Pours loaded gold with white foam, very fine. Aroma is fruity. Body is average with limited carbonation. Taste is moderately sweet, plus a weird aftertaste. Finish is average.

Bottled 355ml. -from Magic Beer Room Zagreb. Pale golden coloured, medium sized white head, mild yeasty nose. Moderate malty, light herbal hoppy, yeasty and a bit phenolic with touch of spices and soft herbs in the finish. Nothing special here.

Bottle from Albert Heijn. Poured a hazy light orange amber with a thin white head. The aroma is Belgian yeast, light hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with a dry crisp fresh mineral hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.
