Cherry Brown brewed with Morello cherries; an effervescent brown ale with gorgeous aromas of red cherries, flavours of sour red cherries and juicy toffee malt. We put the first keg on for our brewery tour today and it went down a storm!

On tap at Craft Covent Garden. Hazy reddish brown. Lasting beige head. Cherry ice cream. Sweetish. Drinkable but could be a bit sourer to get that flemish red thing.

Keg, from the beer flight menu at Friends of Ham. Remaining beige head to a near-clear, red-brown coloured body. Firm lacework. Aroma of earthy malts and cherry. Mixed taste of herbal cherry, almond, and brown, bread-like malts. Mid-sweet and mid-dry ending. Quite refreshing, not overly sweet (Leeds 07.07.2014).

Keg at The Hanging Bat. Pours clear dark red-brown, thin beige head. Big cherry aromas, sour notes. Taste is more sweet and sour cherries. Much more a Cherry than a Brown. Sticky finish. OK.

Keg at Earl of Essex, Islington, London. A hazy dark ruby red coloured pour with a medium off white head on top. Sweet cherry aroma. Tastes of cherry, slightly sweet and sour, a little bitter, quite refreshing on a hot day in N1.

Draught @ Van Moll Brewpub. Clear red color, medium sized slightly creamy beige head that lasts for quite a while. Smell and taste lightly malts, clearly cherries. Medium body and carbonation. Quite decent.

On keg at Cross Scythes, Sheffield - Hazy reddy brown body, pinkish beige top, didn’t last that long mind. Nose is the expected cherries, a bit of toast and dough. Taste is sweet, but not too much, a load of cherry and bread again, fairly sweet on the way out. A bit too fizzy, but pleasant enough.

Tap at Cross Scythes, Sheffield. Hazy, reddy copper colour. Bubbly, off white head. Cherry jam. Black cherry. Granary bread. Some hop in the background. Taste is initially sweet, with a light dryness. A light tartness, too. Sweet, chewy palate. Finish is dry, and light sour. A tad heavy going, but I quite liked this. Could be more tart, for me, though.

Keg at the Euston Tap, 10/06/14. Clear reddish brown with a moderate crimson covering. Nose is cherry drops, straw, grain, light wheaten bread, red berry rinse. Taste comprises prominent cherry notes, light sugar, pinch of spice, cereals, straw. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, cherry tang in the close. So so, mediocre fruit beer that at least retains a modicum of bitterness and isn’t subsumed by overbearing sweetness. Whats going on with Thornbridges recent releases, 2.9 rating on the last two I’ve had - not like them !!!
