Named after an early 1900’s hop store building at St. James’s Gate where hops are still stored, Hop House 13 is a double-hopped lager made with Irish barley and aromatic hops and continues the 256 years of heritage and brewing excellence at St. James’s Gate.
A crisp and full-flavoured lager with subtle malty notes and fresh hop aromas with hints of Apricot and Peach.

Clear golden appearance. Aroma and flavour have a touch of toasted malts. Slightly more flavoursome than other macro lagers.

Bottle from B&M Bargains, Ashton Gate, Bristol. Deep gold in colour, with a tight, yet small, white head and moderate carbonation. Light aroma of sweetish, rich tea malts, hay and a touch of leafy hop. Flavour was also sweet, with cereal mlats, a hint of stone fruit and decent, bitter, finish. A solid lager.

Keg at the Hobgoblin, High Wycombe. Light bronzey-amber with a moderate white head and a light fizz. Caramel to the fore with light grassy hops and a moderate bitterness. Quite a full body for a lager, but slightly sticky as a result. Much better than I expected (not that my expectations were very high!) and strangely more like a summer cask bitter than a lager.

*On tap in Ireland. Smooth malty hints, sessionable, malty layer with some floral hints. Fresh, round with a nice Ale character aftertaste.

Keg. Appearance is amber, clear, plenty of bubbles rising, a solid white head. Aroma of cereal, malt and slight spicy hints. Taste is malty, fairly full-bodied, hoppy crisp finish. Good lager.

Tap. Clear golden with small white head. Aroma is malt, hop, caramel and grass. Flavour is malt, caramel, hop, grass, medium sweet and a little bitter.

330ml bottle at home on 22nd July 2016: poured slowly into a Duvel tulip. Looked good, a clear light amber body with a full, deep white crown on top. Grainy nose and grainy lead in the strange metallic taste. Oh dear, what has gone on here? Aroma is fine, took some strong Cheddar to bring the taste and flavours back in line and away from ’wet cardboard and metal plating’. Different but odd. The Brewers Project or whatever the ’gimmick’ is needs some tweaking.
