Collaboration beer devised by beer bloggers Rob from Hopzine and Rich from The Beer Cast.
The guys chose to collaborate on a beer that really embodied what a writer needs to get those cogs turning; coffee for a pick-me-up and chocolate for a sweet kick and they added oatmeal for a Scottish twist. The beer is a 6.5% milk, oatmeal, chocolate coffee stout. They joined us at our old stomping ground, the original BrewDog brewery in Fraserburgh (affectionately known as the Dystopian Puppet Hobby Centre), for a brew day to help us make the beer.
Rob and Rich have named the beer Dead Metaphor, after a lot of the nomenclature and meaningless buzz words and phrases that are bandied about in the world of beer writing. This beer should be sipped for instant inspiration.

Sample at CBC 2014. Poured a clear dark mahogany with a frothy light tan head. The aroma is big coffee, roasted malt, light dark chocolate. The flavour is medium to strong bitter with a rich roasted coffee liqourice palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Sampled @ CBC 2014. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized brown head. Smell and taste malts, leaves, dark fruits, moderately bitter, lightly earthy and slightly ash. Medium body and carbonation.

Bottle from Bottle Park. Aroma chocolate and coffee, quite assertive. Light burnt and light plum in background. Tempting. Very dark colour, brown head. Taste is full of roasted flavour, dark chocolate, burnt, light coffee, with light sourness in the background. Full body, oily texture. Quite bold considering the relatively modest ABV. Very good, tasty beer.

Tap @ BrewDog Birmingham. Black with a khaki head. Aroma of coffee and freshly mined iron ore. Taste is brilliantly muted given the aroma: a staid bitterness letting in sweeter moments like flashes of light. Medium body. A gorgeous offering.

Pours pitch black with a bubbly light brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, hints of cocoa, coffee and milky notes. Taste is smooth, sweetish and roasty with some cocoa, coffee, chocolate and ashy notes. Finish is smooth, sweetish and chocolatey with some cocoa and coffee notes. Okay stout.

33cl bottle @ home. Pours near black, offwhite head. Dark chocolaty, coco pops, roasted malty aroma. Flavor has yummy dark chocolate cookies, roastedness, cocoa, mudcake oatmeal sweetness. Long finish with more chocolate pudding. Nicely balanced. Really enjoyed this one.

Tap at Brewdog, Sheffield. Very dark brown. Bubbly, tan head, that quicy disappears. Dark chocolate. Cocoa. Hint of coffee. Oatmeal smooth palate. Taste is dry and light bitter. Nice stout, but gets thin toward the end.
