Collaboration beer devised by beer bloggers Rob from Hopzine and Rich from The Beer Cast.

The guys chose to collaborate on a beer that really embodied what a writer needs to get those cogs turning; coffee for a pick-me-up and chocolate for a sweet kick and they added oatmeal for a Scottish twist. The beer is a 6.5% milk, oatmeal, chocolate coffee stout. They joined us at our old stomping ground, the original BrewDog brewery in Fraserburgh (affectionately known as the Dystopian Puppet Hobby Centre), for a brew day to help us make the beer.

Rob and Rich have named the beer Dead Metaphor, after a lot of the nomenclature and meaningless buzz words and phrases that are bandied about in the world of beer writing. This beer should be sipped for instant inspiration.

On tap at BrewDog Nottingham. Pours black with tan head. Aroma is chocolate, dark malts, hops, caramel. Flavor is dark malts, chocolate, cocoa, hops, dark fruits. Also tried it filtered through coffee and vanilla. Wow that gave it a big kick!

Aroma has lots of bitter espresso notes. Also some dark chocolate and hints of cocoa. Flavour has cold coffee, wome cocoa, ashy licorice and dark chocolate. Bitter finish with espresso. Some salty licorice occurs after some sips. Good.

330ml bottle from the ever friendly, ever helpful Kris Wines. Pours fizzy, black with a cream head. Expected it to be a bit richer than this, and given the description of the cacao, coffee etc.. used I have to say it’s a little disappointing. Bit thin on the ground and couldn’t really get much chocolate although that coffee bitterness is there. It’s alright, but that’s about it.

On tap at Brewdog Shoreditch. Black beer lasting tan head. Chocolate coffee aroma which is pleasant. Some almost whisky character in the mouth. Bit cold. Touch of newspaper creeps in at the end. Good aroma bit thin after that

Duft av røyk, kaffe og lakris. Nesten sort av farge. Litt hengende skum. God smak av kaffe og lakris med en ettersmak av røyk.
