Many breweries procure their hops right here in the Northwest. But this beer features the Galaxy hop from Australia, a country famously populated by England’s cast out convicts. Cast Out IPA employs these hops aggressively from hop back to dry hopping stages. Yet the result is a balanced and bronzy ale, with medium hop bitterness complemented by moderate maltiness, showcasing aromas and flavors reminiscent of passion fruit.

500 ml bottle poured into a Spiegelau tulip. Bottled 1/6/2016. Hazy orange with a finger of off-white head. Aromas of big tropical and citrus fruit, floral, pine, onion/garlic. Wonderful fruity aroma. Tastes of big tropical fruit, grapefruit citrus, floral notes, light pine, subtle malt. Medium body with a dry finish. Juicy mouthfeel. Very nice.

Draught, 1/13/16 at Tip Tap Room.
Highly clear (touch of chill haze) blonde body shows light carbonation and a small white head with moderately-low to low retention.
Nose is catty, with various stone fruits, biscuits and a touch of dry, lemony citrus notes. Not overly aromatic and though the cattiness isn’t offensive and actually reminds me of a pleasant funk quality, that’s certainly not acceptable here. No alcohol noted in the nose.
Lemons, pears, nectarine and biscuity malts all combine for a fairly mild character overall. Attenuation is good, with just a touch of honey and bread-like sweetness. There’s more catty flavors, however, and nothing is particularly bright or overly flavorful here. Very herbal, dank and subtle. Texture and carbonation are a bit watery/tired and things could use a little boost/tightening in that department. Anyways, at least it’s not resinous.
Light, for sure, which I have no problem with inherently, but if you’re going to go for a reserved/light rendition, why the hell is it 8%??! Perhaps a touch of alcohol warmth on the end. No real contest with New England IPAs....

On tap at Bethany. Pours a clear orange color with a medium white head. A big perfumy sweet melon nose. The flavor is similar with lots of late boil hops, perfume, citrus, some sweeter caramel. Easygoing.

Sort of interesting Crux bottle from Whole Foods. Pours a clear golden color with a large white head. A big fruity hop nose, some leafy floral notes. The flavor is mellow, fairly dry, fresh green hops, low bitterness, big skunky dank hops. Very well made, clean and tasty. Lovely.

On Tap at the Bend Brewery mostly clear deep yellow with a fine white head and soapy lacing. Light sharp malt and hopppy bitter aroma. Dry and quite bitter but the hop flavors are thin and just biting. Kind of one dimencional. Well attenuated and clean finish

Bottle from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours translucent gold with a creamy/foamy white head. Aroma is rather tropical fruit with hints of slightly roasty malt and something suggesting creme brulee. Near full bodied. Flavor is suggestive of mango and pineapple, and citrus, with a lot of hop florality and some decent caramel support. Rather laid back in intensity of flavors, but not so with respect to bitterness. A nice finish with floral hop bitter that tingles!

Bottle. Pours clear golden orange, large off-white head, dissipates slowly, nice lacing remains. Aroma is garlic and onions, passionfruit, armpits. Flavor is pretty light sweet, medium bitter, green onion, vegetal, grainy malt, some dankness and pot. Medium light body, lingering bitterness. Well crafted, but too much green onion for one beer.

Draft pour at Special Brews. Pours a clear golden color with an oily head. Bitter hop forward aroma. Nothing crazy unique here. Just a basic, though good imperial. Piney hops with a bit of orange and citrus hints. Good beer here.
