Bottle. Pours inky black, small brown head, good lacing. Aroma is dark cocoa, bourbon, vanilla, earth, molasses, treacle, a hint of smoke. Flavor is medium plus sweet, light plus bitter, extremely well integrated, smooth. Full body, silky. Excellent.

Tap at Churchkey. The complexity of the last year's version is no or there of course. Still has really rich bourbon barrel notes, but not quite as awesome a final product as 2021. Monster beer..slowed me down.

Bottle from the brewery. Pours dark brn/blk with a slight/transient creamy dark tan head. Aroma of wood, burnt malt, dark fruit, bourbon, vanilla. Very full bodied. Flavor is chewy, fudgy chocolate, bourbon, toasted/burnt malt, dark cherries, leather/tobacco. Not dry. Nearly sticky. Yet heat and burnt malt render it quite bitter. Extremely tasty ale.

Sample at Shelter pours an oily, leggy black with a ring of beige head. Nose has booze and roast and toast and caramel. Smells high end. Bourbon is nice and blends well with the base, roast and chocolate and molasses. Big Kentucky hug on the end, full bodied.

12oz bottle at home. Vintage 2017. black color, small coffee colored head. smells bourbon, vanilla, light minty, toffee, cocoa, some bitter chocolate, nutty, peanuts, almonds, lovely smell, super balanced. full body, no carbonation. tastes of bourbon, vanilla, spices, nutty, some cocoa, bitter chocolate, tad boozy, light sherry and soy sauce. finishes lightly boozy with notes of bourbon, sherry and some soy sauce. very nice one, super smooth and easy to drink, some oxidation notes, but these are not a distraction.

Bottle at home. Vintage 2018 (no. 009). Has a dark brown to black colour with no head. Aroma of bourbon, oak, tobacco, ash, rye bread, very dark chocolate and raisins. Flavour of bourbon, oak, tobacco, brown sugar, caramel, ash and leather. Warming alcohol in the end. Has a slick and silky mouth feel, full-bodied and a light bitterness. Very rich, multi-layered and tasteful. Relatively careful aroma compared to the flavour explosion.
