Farmhouse Ale

When you brew as much as we do, sometimes we get tired of telling the yeast what to do. For Apex Predator Farmhouse Ale, we pitch the yeast cold, turn off the temperature control, and let the yeast do it's thing. To our delight, it spat out the sweet scent of juicy fruit wafting from a frothy, white mane. Brewed only with grain and sugar unencumbered by the heat of the kiln, we create a hazy, golden body. Apex Predator gets its teeth from a generous Crystal dry-hopping that completes the dry finish with a fruity bite. Pounce on the opportunity to let it part your lips and you may find yourself at the top of the food chain.

Bottle from Julio’s Somewhat hazy deep yellow color with decent sized bubbly white head. Earthy funky citrus, grapefruit, and juicy fruit on the nose with a hint of sweet bready crackey malt and a touch of earthy fruity yeast esters, that is an awesome aroma! Flavor is light fruity almost juice like with a distinct tart earthy flavor to it. Damn that is a flavorful tart earthy farmhouse style ale!

12 ounce bottle. Cloudy yellow color. Small creamy white head. Lemony yeasty aroma has notes of bread and vegetal funk. Zesty citrus malt upfront. Bread and lemon curd in midtaste. Dry farm like finish. Refreshing ang mildly funky. A nice saison.

This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a hazy yellow color with a one and a half finger white foamy head that dissipated within less than a minute. Lacing was slightly spotty and here and there.
The smell had nice fresh sweet grassy tones roll over light sweet bready yeasty orange aromas. With a little bit of pepper, everything rounds out super nice.
The taste had a sticky sweet flavor rolling over the light breadiness and bringing in a nice semi-spiced flavoring underneath. There’s a sweet sticky aftertaste with a quick little spiced sweet finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Carbonation is light and pretty good allowing the sweet breadiness and light spices stick to my tongue nicely.
Overall, this was a really nice saison, semi-dry that I would love to have again.

Bottle. Hazy golden body with a huge, pillowy white head, fully lasting. Aroma of Belgian yeast, citrus, spice, tropical fruit, cobwebs, pepper. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet, lightly to moderately bitter and lightly to moderately acidic. Medium body, watery/velvety texture, lively carbonation. Dry finish. Taste of passion fruit, citrus, lemon and light basement mustiness. Clean and different. Quite good.

Nicely hazy golden coloured body with a straw coloured glow and a nice, two centimetre tall pure white microfoamed head. Aroma of grassy, hay, belgian yeast, coriander seed, curcao, lemons and quite a bit of honey. Light to Medium-bodied; Slight funk up front showing brett, or so it seems, that fades to a very pleasant yeast and wheat kick and actually a noticeable amount of alcohol. Aftertaste borders on the grassy and honey flavours more than anything else with an odd finishing taste of malt and a straw/herbal/cardboardie finish that doesn’t make the beer as complex on the end. Overall, still a nice and rewarding beer throughout, from the look to the smell and of course the taste, but the aftertaste leaves a bit to be desired - that said, still a beer worth trying, especially in summer/warm months, if you can find this! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Portland, Oregaon (Pearl) on 04-May-2015 for US$2,99 sampled at home on the other end of the country in Washington on 28-May-2015.
