Brekeriet White Label

Brekeriet Cassis is a sour ale mainly fermented with Brettanomyces yeast. Black currant is added during the secondary fermentation and this yeast loves berries which is shown in the fantastic taste of the beer. Brekeriet Cassis is refermented in the bottle which gives a thin layer of yeast at the bottom of the bottle.

Draft. A hazy red beer with a pinkish head. The aroma has notes of black currant and brettanomyces. The flavor is acidic with notes of black currant, wet wood, and brettanomyces, leading to a tart finish. Boring.

Day 2 of the post Xmas Bamberg Jolly, Cafe Abseits Tasting bottle thanks to Andreas Andy Snow #029/500, 25/01/14. Vibrant cherry red with a moederately sized off white covering. Nose is punchy berry fruit, soured berries, bitter raspberry, tarte blackcurrant, dank straw, earthy. Taste comprises bitter red bery fruit mash up, lactic tang, soured blackcurrants, musty tones. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying finish. Decent enough sour, lots of fruit and not too dank to be top of the pile, but a good effort none the less.

Bottle #143. Aroma is fairly fruity with a strong berry character. Slight lactic acid note and a hint of barnyard. A slight hint of grain in the background. Pours a slightly cloudy dark red with a moderately thick, half inch tall pink head that steadily recedes. Flavor has a light acidity and a moderately strong fruit note. A hint of barnyard and a light graininess. Low bitterness and some lingering acidity. Light phenolic note present as well. Some earthy notes. Mouthfeel is light to medium light bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall an alright beer but I think I was hoping for more complexity to balance all the fruit notes. It is also a bit thin and watery. The cassis has a slightly odd finish that I am not used to in my fruited sours. Its berry but also a bit woodsy.
