Our beloved Yeti is going back to its roots with this Himalayan-inspired variation. Traditional Chai spices of cinnamon, green cardamom, black pepper, ginger, nutmeg, and vanilla blend seamlessly with Yeti’s rich, roasted malt backbone for a spicy beast fit to tackle Everest.

Tap at FOB, Rimini, Italy. Pours black with a fine dark brown foam, very creamy and high, persistent as well. Aroma, with the beer protected by such a thick foam, is delicate, of cocoa beans, licorice stick, vanilla. But warning up, the ginger becomes more evident. Body is average, maybe a little in the dense side, with moderate carbonation. Taste is pretty bitter and roasty, with a long final too. Overall, I expected more, although it hides the alcohol rather well.

Baker's chocolate, charred oak, cinnamon nose. Cola black, medium tan head, little retention. Baker's chocolate, cardamom, nutmeg, charred oak. Full body, easy carbonation. My least favorite of the Yeti franchise, it's still a Yeti and better than most imperial stouts.

66cl Bottle from Cornelius. Black colour, beige-brown head. Aroma of lots of cardamom and ginger, roast, light hoppy, some grapefruit, mocha, hint of cinnamon, dark chocolate. Flavour of chocolate, very spicy, cardamom and ginger mostly, roast, mocha, light hoppy, bitter spicy finish. Full bodied. Tasty, but a little overdone on the spices.

Bottle pour into stemless wine glass from Valley Beverage (born on date 9/7/17). Appearance is opaque black with no discernible sparkle, finger-width foamy light brown head with poor retention and trace lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, anise, cream, mild cardamom. Taste is roasted malt, dark fruit, dark chocolate, cream, vanilla, mild cardamom, cinnamon and pepper (spices are more noticeable as it warms). Palate is full bodied with thick texture, soft carbonation and rich finish as taste. Overall, not overwhelmed with chai contribution but it's there if you reach for it. On the plus side, it allows the base stout to shine!

Yeti from Great Divide never disappoints, some are just better than others. I have had Chai for longer than I recall, bottled on 9/27/17. Time to break it out. Bought in D/FW at a Total Wine, consumed in West Texas. I open the 22 oz bottle before pouring in a ABGB tulip glass. Dark mahogany brown in color with a small light brown head, quickly gone. A sniff, grain, chocolate and malt. And the taste now, A firm maltiness immediately, milk chocolate, coffee, a bit of toffee, nutmeg maybe, strongly bitter. Different Yetis I like better but this is quite decent.

Black, thick head, rich choc and roast. Yum. Actually I don’t get the spice at all...well at least I like yeti.
